I found an abandoned Green Man sculpture. It's very abandoned, trust me.
I'd like to bring it home as I feel bad for him out there all over grown.
Is that wrong?
I don't know if anyone here knows as I think he's more druid than anything else...but just in case...thought I'd ask.

As far as I know he is an old European (druid?) figure that represents the embodiment of life forces. He is typically associated with winter when "life forces" go inside the earth (like the waldorf story book - the root children). He is represented as the green night in king aurther tales and many feel he is the inspiration for robin hood. we have a latern with him on it that we place on the table in winter or go for lantern walks with. I for one would think it nice for you to bring him home and care for him.

He is often worshipped as the male deity next to the Goddess in pagan religions. I'll give him a good home if you want. I think even "Hern The Hunter" in the Robin Hood legend was viewed as the green man.

Okay, here's the deal...my husband saw a Green Man like this a long time ago and really adored him...like, if any man would be the green man...it'd be my husband.
Anyway....so, we found this really expensive house we covet....could never afford. The people have been gone for years...everything is gone but the Green Man, in one tangled up part of the garden.
The thing is....it's exactly the same as the one my husband saw years ago...it's a one of a kind type of thing.
Well, I was going to go back and get it for him, but got worried.
I don't think it's stealing....because they are long gone and haven't been back to the house, that we can tell, for years. We go there every few weeks and have a picnic.
We're weird.
LOL

Hi there Jennifer,

The green man is often the male consort to the Lady. He is oftentimes seen as the male portion of the male/female, lord/lady, god/goddess.

If you do a search on Green Man online, you'll get TONS of information.

He sounds wonderful! I am happy you have found him!!

Blessings,

Michelle

The Green Man is on my table.
Now how do I hide and wrap him?
LOL
How does one wrap a diety anyway?

You absolute rebel of a girl! What ARE you going to do with him? I have no advice on wrapping. I am totally cracking up, sounds like something I would do.

Okay...he's in a box....ready to wrap.
LOL.
He's nice and wrapped up in one of Eli's play silks...LOL.
Oh, and my husband should never question that I love him...I have some absolute primal terror about driving through water...scares me to no end...and you have to drive through a creek to get to this place...and it's been raining...so it was a torrent.
I was thinking, "Here I am, pregnant, with a toddler in the back, going to commit what some would consider petit larceny, driving through a raging, white water creek....trespassing no less...."
LOL.
It was too funny.
And my husband has no idea.
heehee.

Oh, it's a Christmas gift...definitely...after what I went through!
He kept bugging me about the beard trimmer he *knew* was under the tree until I finally just gave it to him...LOL...he didn't want to pay for it to be trimmed (extra with a haircut) if there was already a trimmer waiting for him...
The worst part is, I keep wanting to tell him about the Green Man adventure...but I can't breathe any part of it...I can't even say I went up there, b/c he knows I would *never* drive through water (this ain't no puddle either...it's a wide, deep, rushing creek) willingly....LOL...he'd know something was up.
So, I keep catching myself about to spill the beans....luckily, I haven't spilled any yet....only 6 more days...I can do it!

I wouldn't take it. I would take a picture of it maybe. Someone owns that property and that green man. It's like looting a little I think. I know it would bother me every time I looked at it.

PS. If you're husband is into the Green Man there is a FANTASTIC book out that I got my dh (also Green Man fanatic) called

"The Quest for the Green Man" by John Matthews

If you still have $ in the Christmas budget I would highly recommend it as a companion to the statue. It's really a beautiful and informative book. I got mine at Barnes and Noble.

Well, generally, I'm not a theif (I know you didn't call me one, either) and I never, ever would have considered thinking about taking him *IF* he hadn't been the exact one that my husband saw years and years ago....Every once and awhile, he'll say, "When we buy a house, can we find that Green Man?"
So, it was almost like it was meant to be...at least in my mind.
If we hadn't become so familiar with the property over the past few years, I wouldn't have taken it either....it's hard to explain...but somehow I just felt it was the right thing to do...Maybe I'm wrong...but, I'm willing to admit that if I ever feel differently.

Hey, that's cool. I'm just so darned anal that I would be thinking "Gee, did I do the right thing?" Every time I looked at him. LOL
