ds was playing with his penis the other day. I asked what he was doing and he said "umm...wagging my tail!" with a proud smile.
He doesn't know a word for his penis yet but that was a good guess!

A penis. We are honest with our body parts. Mommy has a vagina and daddy and DS have a penis.

IMO - Honesty is the best policy.

we use "wee wee". "my man" wouldnt work here---that is what ds calls spiderman.

we may start using penis/vagina soon because when changing dd, ds looks & says "none, wee wee".......my mom really got a kick out of that! i just told him that she has one but that it is different than his:)

Vagina is only part of it-- labia, too.
I think we'll call it yoni with any girls we have. I've seen this used in many families and it works great.
The male equivalent words I've heard are lingum and vajra. I agree that penis doesn't necessarily need replacing.

we use penis and vagina, but zoey generally says "giney" (rhymes with hiney) so thats what we all use.

We use penis here too. Its one of my DS's favorite words. We call it Vagina... or Yoni, depending on how scattered I am when he points... asks about it.

We call it a penis too. My ds (2.5 yo) won't leave his alone. In November he started grabbing it, when he is naked, and making elephant noises while he stretches it out. <sigh>

Even with his heightened awareness of his penis he won't even consider using the potty. I can tell that he grabs it more right before he pees, though, because if he is able to get to it he pulls it out and wets his clothes. He just won't won't won't go on a potty.

He will eventually, though, right?

my boys know it's their penis.... though they also say weenie, dinkie, etc. We haven't yet gotten into what emily "has" yet. Right now they've either referred to it as her penis <g> or peepee. For some reason penis didn't weird me out but teaching them vulva or vagina does. :confused: Once she wants a word for it - it may be different, since it's her body.

it is an italian slang for the female gender or at least that is what my Italian friends told me-sheesh I oughtta find that out for sure, huh.

If you refer to a girls genitals as Vulva, b/c there are additional parts involved, why do you call the male genitals penis when there is also foreskin (equivlaent to female labia) etc...

For me, the answer to your question would be that when a girl talks about her private part she's not talking about the vagina. She's talking about the outside areas and where the pee comes out. So vagina is not accurate, but if it was a great word, we might choose to use it anyway. I feel there are better words however! Like I said, I've heard "yoni" used in many families and it seems perfect.
And foreskin is a part of the penis, so we don't have to come up with a separate word to name it all. This is what makes sense to me, anyway.

DD knows that she has a vagina, which she also knows girls don't use til they're grown up, and a urethra, and an anus -- I've used the term vulva with her, but mostly we call it her pee-pee. She knew all these words and uses before I had her brother when she was 2.5 ("Does your mama have a BABY in her tummy?" "Yeah, and it's gonna get in her 'gina." :LOL)

DS, we call "penis" -- I've just intro'd the term scrotum since I'll say to him (almost 3) -- "DS, please go in the bathroom or your room if you'd like to play with your penis," and DS, "I'm not playing with it. I'm playing with this!" (scrotum) lawyer to be, I think. He also likes to pull his foreskin back and have conversations with the glans. He drives me insane; girly parts are so much more subtle!

i call my ds's penis a peter. as soon as he could stand he'd have one hand down his pants and the other (thumb) hand in his mouth. now he is always in a onesie. and the first thing he goes for when i'm changing him is his peter. that's why i call him my little peter pincher lol. but dh calls it his package in a very proud tone of voice. lol my mom started calling dd's butt her dupey-doo, now that's what she calls it, too. sometimes i'll call it front butt and back butt, cause that's what my ma did. then she'll know to wipe from front to back.

Penis and vulva here. Although I have a hard time remembering vulva- I always have to stop and think. Coming from a family of 8 brothers and a little sis that wasn't born till I was 16 the word penis is very common to me. But since we didn't techniqually 'talk' about such thing the word vulva or vagina takes me a minute on.

Finn's penis is referred to as "Mr. Wanky", rofl. He also knows the terms penis, scrotum, etc... . Winnie calls her parts her "bottom" which she started on her own. She too knows the correct words, vulva, vagina, labia, but she just says her bottom most of the time.
