It sounds so scary, lol! But my SIL just had a preemie, he was 35 weeks. They keep having babies every 9-12 months and they kept coming earlier and earlier, and this is #4 and she ended up in the hospital for over 2 weeks before he arrived, on bedrest.

Anyway, I'm going to attempt a sweater for him. I just don't like any of the preemie patterns, lol. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Theresa's Easy Peasy pattern comes in preemie size, and it's very cute!

What is his size? They don't consider them preemie's until before 34 weeks here unless they are small (under 5 lbs). Hmm. But, I guess most baby patterns are probably for 7 to 10 lbs.

Everything under 37wks is preemie here, regardless of size.

Good Luck with the pattern, Stephanie!! All three of mine were that early, #1 & #3 were 35 wks, and #2 was 36 wks.

You may have seen these sites already, but I have these bookmarked for preemie patterns and inspiration:

If you are doing your own pattern, I'll suggest Barbara Walker's Knitting from the Top. It's an EXCELLENT book :D

I've never heard that before, everything I've ever read (and I've got three preemies, so I've read a lot, LOL!) states that before 36 weeks is preemie,a dn then the week between 36 and 37 is iffy, based on baby's weight and overall health, whether they designate a preemie or not. I can't imagine any 35 weeker NOT being designated a preemie, regardless of size. My almost 35 weeks was over 7 pounds, but he's still a preemie and we still had to be extra careful about watching him getting sick because of RSV.

Anyway, the 5 hour baby sweater ( goole it, with 5 hours baby sweater+lorraine major: hers is the best version I've seen) done with worsted weight on size 7 works very well as a preemie sweater, and it's quite cute, too :)
