Well it seems today that my kid and my 2 daycare kids (4, 6,8) cannot manage for the life of them not to hit, call names or just in general be bad monkeys so I am getting some house work done courtesy of them! Right now they are sitting at my table with 2 huge tupperware containers full of asst. buttons that I have wanted sorted by color for a long time! The each have bins to sort them into. Hmm anyone got any other creative punishment ideas? Oh and time out doesn't work on my daycare kids...

:::thinking:::

i like the way your mind works :p filing this idea of sorting buttons etc away for later use lol...

jake thinks dusting is supercool as well as washing windows...i use those as "punishment"/distraction techniques when needed, though they're not really punishment since he likes to do 'em lol...hey, helps me get the house clean!

baseboards with a rag of vinegar and water! He also does the stairs with the dustbuster. LOL but our family motto is "la de da de everybody!" so he knows if mommy has to clean then so does he! I am thinking later the 8yo might be alphabetizing some books, the 6 yo might be restacking tupperware by size and the 4yo might be tape rolling the cat tower! I am stuck in the house with them today since its super cold out and DH has my van but tomorrow is library day!

thinking they have bikes, scooters, skates, balls and anything else to play with right? Nope they go two houses down and throw dirt clods at my neighbors sliding glass door! He (whom I never met till now) brings them back and lets me know. I just got back from watching them wash his door and sweep his drive! Now these kids live next door and play outside alone all the time and they think this is a good idea today? OMGosh...Thank goodness I am only doing this till baby comes!
Needless to say my baseboards are gorgeous!
Oh and my ds was doing hs while this was going on so he is the only one who gets to have fun today!
(how do you punish one and not all?)

Haven't tried this one yet but in Family Mag ( Oct issue, I think) one mom had her two kids (6 and 8 y/o) doing chores TOGETHER!!! They had to sweep/wash floors/dust/make beds etc together and if it wasn't done correctly they had to redo it. It really taught them that they needed to cooperate to get things done. And as an added bonus........................her house got cleaner :D !!!

Oh, yeah!! I would have made THEM clean up the neighbors windows and patio.

The worst punishment for my 5 & 6 year old is to have to hold hands! They get rowdy and hit each other and I tell them "Hands are for holding, not hitting!" It drives them crazy!

Another bad one for my kids is when they're mad at each other they have to name 5 things they really really like about each other. Usually by the time they come up with a couple they've forgotten why they're mad.
