View Full Version : christian mamas...do you
wear a cross?
just wondering. I wonderful mama has made chelsey and i messianic symbols to wear- a star of david with a cross inside of it. I have a 14K gold pin with that symbol that i wear to church and big occasions. I had cross earrings and lost one, but still wear the other in my second hole in my left ear.
but i don't wear a cross around my neck, i wear the ruby/diamond heart dh gave me years ago at christmas. I bought him (for his bday) a hematite cross on a black leather cord that he wears as a choker
anyway, do you wear a cross? pendant? earrings?pin?

No...only because I do not wear much jewlery. If I had a nice cross, I would wear it. :)
Edit *I have a small cross pin on my winter jacket. I forgot about that*

Only if I feel like wearing that specific piece of jewelry at the moment. Never just as a statement, if that makes sense.
I'd never wear a piece of jewelry that had a pendant on it that I don't agree with just because I like the jewelry though.

I'm pretty much the same as everyone else. If I had a cross I'd wear it for sure, but not a crucifix.

I have two necklaces with crosses. One is a gold teardrop with a cross cut out of the middle. Dh gave that to me for our first anniversary. The other is a silver cross given to me by my MIL for my birthday a few years ago. I go through stages of wearing the teardrop one alot, and I only wear the silver one on a rare occasion. They both mean alot to me, but as I don't wear alot of jewelry, I don't wear them all the time.

I don't but I don't have a cross. I don't wear jewelry often aside from earrings. I suppose if I had one I'd wear it occasionally.

My dh had a beautiful cross made for me, a feminine version of a cross he bought in Peru. I wore it for a long time, on a thick chain. I stopped wearing it when I sprouted skin tags and moles all ove rmy neck - the chain kept catching them - ouch!
We're not encouraged to wear jewelry at work, so I limit myself to my wedding band, a watch, and occasionally a small bracelet.

I do :D Well, I wear a Catholic 4-way medal, but it's in the shape of a cross. I wear it all the time.

I have a very small chain/choker with an icthus soddered (sp?)to the chain on either end on it...about the size of my pinkie fingernail...it's broken now but I've worn that off and on for 15 years. I haven't really found anything else that I like.

I have 2 crosses that I wear occasionally. I have 1 that is made of small crystals that was given to me by my Grandmother and 1 that is a Black Hills Gold necklace that dh gave me last year for Christmas. I go thru periods of wearing them. But since I have 4 children and I work at a job wear I clean part-time, I generally only wear them for nice occasions.

I don't wear a lot of Jewelry, but I do have a beautiful gold cross that was a gift to me during the blessing ceremony we did 3 days after I delivered my surrogate baby.
We had climbed up this beautiful hillside in Rocky mountain National Park (uh yeah, 3 days after birth! LOL!), there were wild flowers everywhere,,we had worked for months on this ceremony, my pastor was supposed to accompany us to do part of it but last minute couldn't, so it was just me, the IP's and the baby God made...It was so beautiful, memorable, and I have some amazing pictures we took with Longs Peak in the background.
I don't wear jewelry often, except my tiny nose stud, so I only wear it on special occasions,,but it is special beyond words...:)
(He is 5, will be 6 this summer, and in March they are coming to visit (we get together each year, because we are just such great friends,,the baby is coincidental), and we are telling him his story! Pray for me mama's!)
In my church it is customary to wear a cross to church. Most babies are given cross necklaces to wear for this on their chrismation day (as infants). Mine always break because they catch on something or a kids rips it off, but I have several with no chains! These crosses are usually gold or bronze, three bar (Orthodox) crosses. Sometimes they can have a leather or silk cord in the place of the chain.
Peace! Jeni

I used to wear one as a child to church on Sundays. As an adult I don't have one. I am torn. I would like one, but then I don't ever get one.
I heard somene speak once about believing is not just wearing a special symbol around your neck or having a icthus on your car, its about living your faith 24/7.
I can't quote exactly what he said, just the impression it made on me. Its almost as if now I don't want to wear a cross or have a fish or other bumper sticker on my car because I don't want to fail the God those represent. Probably sounds silly or doesn't make much sense, I know.

I have a beautiful silver cross with blue stones my cousin Margaret gave me, and a silver/cz cross ring DH bought me for my birthday. I wear them only occasionally. I'm simply not very big on jewelry. The only things I wear on a regular basis are my engagement & wedding rings. My daughters tend to try to yank any necklace off, and I just don't think to wear other rings often.

I don't. I am entirely too foul- mouthed and angry most of the time to be a good advertisement. And, really, to me, they are advertisements. So, no.
Also, someone once pointed out that it's like wearing a tiny, gold-plated electric chair. Or guillotine. Except people really did wear tiny, gold-plated guillotines.
And, it's sort of offensive to a great many people I know, or am related to. They all feel pretty comfortable wearing their religious hardware, so I don't see why I'm *noticed* when I mention something about church. Egads, I sent my son to Vacation Bible School, and I was asked how they enjoyed "playing in Auschwitz, at Vacation Hitler Youth Camp." I'm not really inclined to let people near me have many more opportunities to stick their foot in their mouth than they already feel comfortable taking.
When I do wear jewelry, it does have great meaning for me, though, so it's practically religious.
I wore a coptic cross when I was younger, b/c I thought it was beautiful. My friends preferred them, too, but I think it was a goth/punk thing. I would, maybe, still wear it, but it's sort of like saying " I watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer with credit card in hand."

I wear a cross, but I am HOPING HOPING HOPING that dh will get me a necklace with a Messianic Seal of Jerusalem on it. For those unaware of what it is, here's a pic.
Donna, I had no idea you were messianic.
I wear a gold cross with a small star of David set inside it. I can't find them online tho, only the opposite, the star with the cross inside it, like this

Thats incredibly cruel and sad.
I just got lovely cross earrings , gold with a small ruby , for easter. I like proclaiming my faith - I'm not ashamed to show my love for Jesus

Actually, Barb, it's hard to explain what I am. Usually, when asked, I say I am Messianic Gentile. I have always felt such a strong "rightness" about Judaism, having experienced it a great deal when I was a nanny in NYC. It is positively beautiful. However, at that young age, I was too head-strong and self-centered to consider a conversion to Judaism. Jump forward 13-14 years, I a began feeling a pull to Judaism, began studying it quite a bit, and knew that Judaism was right for me. I do not feel that we were ever intended to give up the feasts and sabbaths, etc. Then, came the conundrum, of actual conversion, being as I am a believer in Y'shua. I prayed and prayed over this, and it was moved upon my heart, that I could never convert, because I would obviously have to denounce Y'shua...and dat ain't happenin'!! ;) Basically I adhere to many of the teachings and laws of Judaism, and would obviously be a Messianic Jew *IF* I could have converted. Since I am *not* Jewish (AFAIK), I am, of course, a gentile...which leads me to say I am a Messianic Gentile, when asked. Many become confused, and suggest I am *Christian*, which, I suppose I am...but unlike the majority of Christians, I am an adherent to Judaism...thus, Messianic Gentile. :D I have not now, nor will I EVER represent myself as anything other...I have met some who embrace Judaism/Messianic Judiasm, and even though they have not converted, tell others they are Jewish. I find that to be soooo direspectful, and it drives me nuts! So...anyhow...there is the long version...hope it makes sense! On a side, I have to note how amazing it has been, this journey! HaShem has really opened my eyes, and it blows me away. I read the bible differently than before, I hunger for His word. It seems that at every turn, now, there is a judiac sign that of course serves as a light unto my path. I have never felt so humble before Adonai, and so often, it moves me to weep.
So basically tho - you're a Messianic believer - grafted to the vine some would say.
So you are not a Messianic Jew, you're a Messianic Christian.
I know actually many Christians who have decided to read and follow torah and incorporate Jewish traditions, laws and custom into their lives. A few here in arizona and many on the internet.

Yes, but when I have said that in the past, it seems to only clutter and confuse. So, I say Messianic Gentile. I think that most people understand "gentile" in relation to Judiasm, and it seems to make people more able to process what my beliefs are. There are many, MANY on the net, and I have to say, if you've not been yet to Christian Forums.com, lmk, and I'll forward the link. There is an amazing Messianic forum there, and they embrace all who are Messianic, and who are either Jewish, or adherents. The sweet spirit there is one of a kind.

Thank you!! I loved sharing it. That is one thing that I must say that differs in me from before. Previously, I loved and adored Y'shua, but wasn't so open about it with others. Now, I cannot conceal it.

I suppose I am too, and for that I apologise. Perhaps, we can speak on this more privately, or in another thread. I think others might be quite interested and would enjoy learning a bit more. Also, ty for the welcome back. I check in periodically, thought, admittedly, not nearly enough. I get caught up in the day to day things, as I am sure we all do. I will have to look for that book. I am sure RJ and myself would enjoy it! We have been learning Hebrew together, he and I, sometimes easier than others. Some days, I feel overwhelmed, but I know it will be so very worth it. Todah, Barb...I have enjoyed our conversation, and I hope we will have more in the future. Until we speak again, be well, and may HaShem rain down blessings on you and your loved ones.
