View Full Version : Making my own hemp flats
I want to use flats this time, and Dh has pointed out how much cheaper still it would be to make my own. Is there any reason not to make them 100% hemp? We found a source for organic hemp by the yard, and I just wondered.

I've always heard that the 100% hemp is very rough and doesn't break in. I use the hemp/cotton blend and am very pleased with its softness and durability.

Thanks! Do you use knit, terry, flannel?
Also, how does one make a prefold? There must be some really simple way to get the fabric layered and my brain cannot seem to do the logic of it.

I like the hemp jersey for the softness, but its kinda thin. Right now I use the hemp fleece. I always use the smooth side out because the fuzzy side seems rough to me after a while. The smooth side just gets softer over time. If you want to make prefolds. Put right sides of the outer together and sew around 3 sides to make like a pillowcase. Turn it right side out, place your middle strips in the center and secure them with two straight lines down the outside of the soaker layers leaving some room on the open end that you can fold in the fabric and sew it closed. If that didn't make sense just ask and I'll try to explain it better.
