I decided after much sorrow to switch to sposies. My washer wasn't cleaning the diapers well and they were making my washer yucky. I tried to get off all the solids but it was messy once the dipes got wet, switching them into the washer was a sloppy stinky mess, and I decided the extra money a month was better than getting all poopy all the time.:mad:

We have a front loader (Whirlpool Duet) and have not had any problem with the dipes! I have a minishower to get off the solids and use a dry pail. I wash dipes only about 1-2X a week and I put a Diaper Buddy or two in the pail with the dipes. I put them in the washer and add a tbsp. of detergent, a bit of Calgon and some Bac-out then run a cold wash. When that's done, I'll run a hot wash with nothing added and that's it! My dipes all come out fresh and clean and I've not had any issues at all.

HTH! I'm sorry you're having trouble! I'd definately get a minishower and do a dry pail. No mess!

I have heard LOTS of people say the front loader does not do well for diapers.

I have also heard a lot of mixed reviews about the front loader period.

See, she will be completely done with diapers soon, so it isn't worth getting the minishower. If we have another child I would get one, but for all the stuff you add, it seems expensive to wash! I think I would just sell the front loader and get a toploader if we ever had another in dipes!

I have used my front loader through two kids in dipes, and I think it worked fine. I used either bio kleen or arm and hammer free and vinegar. Occassionally, I would put in some Borax. That's it as far as adding stuff.

I did dry pail. I only shook off solids. I very rarely had to dunk a diaper, maybe every couple of weeks. What didn't come off the diaper that way went into the pail and into the washer. I always started with a cold rinse. Then I would do one hot wash with detergent and vinegar rinse. And then one hot wash with nothing. Sometimes I line dried and sometimes I used the dryer.

I wonder what's up that yours isn't geting diapers clean. I am sorry; it must be vexing.

It does seem expensive until you realize I use about a tablespoon of each for each diaper wash (remember we wash only about once a week) and so I've had both bottles since the spring! LOL!! If you ever do have another one, definately get the minishower. I cded 2 without, did one halfway without then when I found out I was pg. with #4, I got it and LOVE it! We even use it to wash out the tub (don't have a hose on the shower), and to rinse out my pad pail each night so I'll keep it hooked up even after we're done with dipes. :D

Thank you for the responses. I am thinking I may try to get a top loader next year with tax money and sell this one really cheap!

well, we recently bought a calypso washing machine(no agitator, works on the same principle as a front loading washer)and I HATED it!!! The only good thing was that we bought it used...and not the $800+ that it cost new...still, I couldn't resell something that didn't clean so we literally threw away $200...Dh says no front loading either since they work very similar!

omigosh-I LOVED my calypso-i think that thing rocked!(I moved to New Zealand and couldn't take it with me) If I used my Calypso with Bio Kleen and Vinegar in the rinse, I had the cleanest smelling clothes ever. And the cycle was only 47 minutes long! My front loader takes almost 2 hours. *sigh*

I can't help you with the poopy mess, but I know with a front loader you really need to use high efficeiency soap-Bio Kleen works great. And once a month I would run a super hot wash cycle with Vinegar without clothes. It helps get soap residue out. And strip your dipes...use hot(very hot) water and vinegar and run them through a few cycles-to start fresh. If you wash dipes more often-and have a smaller load it mmight not be so much of a mess. Soap residue is what makes the dipes hold smell. I experienced this all with my front loader.

and if you have and extra place to store poopy dipes...you could store wet separate from poop. Then when you wash, put the poopy ones in first, run them on a cold prewash. Then add the wet ones, run them through a hot wash and intensive rinse cycle with vinegar. Or whatever wash routine works for you.

You do have to clean the O ring once in a while.

Once a week? Wow! I was washing about 40dipes every 2-3 days!:eek:

what kind of front loader do you have? i've got the basic kenmore front loader and it doesn't wash diapers out well at all. :mad: makes me so mad but thankfully my dd is on her way to going on the potty chair all the time. the minishower does help out a ton. but i find that the diapers just have a "smell" to them even when they've been washer for 3 or 4 wash cycles.

Read the info I posted above and try it-about getting the soap scum out of your front loader and stipping your dipes. I promise, it will help:)

LOL - Yup! My almost 2 year old is such a light peer and I have all heavy duty dipes because my son was super soaker! I also have the 54 qt. pail and that's plenty big for what we need - not to mention I have enough diapers to diaper 3 kids! LOL!!
