I got my Uggs today and I have to say, I'm much more impressed with the quality of the ultra boots I got last week from http://www.kiwi-sheepskins.com.

The shearling is far more plush in the kiwi boot, the construction feels sturdier, and the sole of the kiwi boot is much more rugged (granted, the Uggs are essentials, not ultras).

If you're in the market for some shearling boots, you should really consider saving yourself some money and going for the less expensive boots. I like them better. (Just be absolutely certain you order the right size)

Anyway, there's my comparative analysis.

Thank you for the review! Dh has had his Uugs for literally 10 years, and they have holes in them. I wear them though, and had put them on my Christmas Wish List. I'll have to change that now!

going to try some 39.99 acorn shearling boots from the rei outlet . Go to rei-outlet.com and search "acorn boots" they have long and short and these same one are 60.00 at sierra trading.

Some others I have seen are:

Bear Paw (here in size 10 only for 39.99 also):

http://www.shoepavilion.com/852231.html

these that Suzi posted about called chooka boots (very nice colors and just 59.99):

http://www.sheepskindirect.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=17

and landsend.com and llbean.com both have nice looking shearling boots for way less than uggs.

I think llbean has prettier colors and they cost less. Why don't we do an update with our reviews of our UGG KNOCKOFFS! I wish I could try them all but I guess that defeats the purpose of buying knockoffs in the first place to save $$$$.

So you wanna know about Ugg boots-hee hee lol!(asks the american who moved to New Zealand)

Ugg is the term that Kiwis(New Zealanders) used for the sheep shearling type boot forever... Noone ever trademarked the name here...but that is what they called them. Tons of different people make them here.

Then an Austrailan company trademarked the name with their boots.

Kiwis don't like that very much.

Anywho---there are lots of places you can buy them in New Zealand for lots less money and the quality isr eally good.(I can post links if you need them-I can ask around if anyone needs info)

I need to geta pair for me for next winer.(it is spring here right now:))

I totally agree with you. The genuine [sic] UGGs are made in China! I got a pair of Aussie Uggs two years ago from an Amity mama's co-op and they are fabulous, the sheepskin is so much softer and far better quality than the "real" ones. I bought DD some gorgeous pink ones from an Australian company out of Perth and they came in three days and the shipping was included. They also are also made of very good quality sheepskin.

For those that want links to Ugg alternatives for their kiddos (or themselves for that matter), I have tons of links. Here they are!

I have a pair of the short ones, bought 2 years ago. But, if you have a warmer climate, or are a "warm" person, you might want to try Minnetonka Moccasins. They are the new "in" thing this year. I just bought this boot and wear it barefoot (super comfy and stylin') http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/10134/c/231.html
My favorite online shoe store:
http://www.zapposshoes.com
And Minnetonka also makes boots similar to Uggs, but less pricey

Uggs really is what we might call "slippers" right? It's just a term for the footwear. We went through this discussion last year on here...some swear up and down that "Uggs" are better than the "fake" uggs...only the name brand will do. But that's really all anyone is buying...the namebrand (which was trademarked by a US company - argh, what's the name of them again?).

I have Target uggs that I love...I have two pair I don't need that are NIB if anyone is interested...dark lavender & pink...both size 9. I just always wear my tan ones.

Dekkers ( I think that is the correct spelling). Also, you don't have to mind buying $100 plus shoes that have been made in China!

My 14 year old has a pair of the tan ones from Target and loves them too.

Sasha is wearing her pink uggs from Perth, Aus, in my sig pic.

Shut your mouth. I am desperate for a pair of UGGS. My MIL had UGGS before UGGS were cool and I wanted them back then.

I want a pair of ruby red UGGS and a matching bag.

I don't understand why there's such a fuss over them now. I've worn them since '95 (my neighbors called me Ugg, back in my single days), and wanted them since high school (like '85), when a couple of the surfers wore them. I thought they were cool then, but I didn't want to spend the money on them.

I have Costco shorts from last Nov, I really want talls again... Pink talls would be grand, but I can't justify buying a new pair until my current pair is falling apart...

I got my first pair in 1990...dh and I exchanged them for Christmas while we were dating...he got his first pair while he was living in Australia going to university, they were stolen while he surfed:mad: Anyway...I'm on pair number 3 and find the new *craze* over them sorta funny.:p the local surf population has been in those things for years and years.

Hey Cassie, I saw the ruby red uggs and the bag at Nordstroms last week.;) I got these (http://store.nordstrom.com/product/product_brandboutique.asp?styleid=2822858&boutique=boot_shop_men&category=2376778~2372807~2372829~2380762&NextStyleID=2792089&PrevStyleID=2825597) for dh 3 years ago when they first came out. His is a super deep chocolate brown and they are awesome!

Update--After a week and a half of wear, the side stitching on my Uggs started coming undone.

They went back, and I'm not buying that brand of boot ever again. Ick.

If you're buying boots to walk in the snow, give ULU a try. My girlfriend bought a pair at the start of winter, but they were a bit too small so she passed them on to me. OMG - comfort, warmth, traction, top-quality construction...and they look COOL. 'Specially with a pair of flare-leg jeans or corduroys - the toe is roundier, and looks, well....cooler LOL!

Gf said that Uggs weren't really designed to be snowboots (she's a shoe salesperson, so she's in-the-know about these things ;)) - they really *are* targeted more toward the surfer crowd.
