Hey mamas, it's been a long time, and I'm missing the opportunities I used to have to visit the board. :(
With that said, I was hoping someone had an idea about what to use in my rug cleaner machine. I don't want to buy the cleaner stuff, but don't know what else to use.
Any ideas?
Dr bronners works fine in it. I usually add a little oxiclean to help brighten-- oh and you dont need a ton of dr bronners or you will end up with soap residue. If that happens just run a cycle with water only.

last time I cleaned my carpets witha green machiene I used an orange concentrated laundry soap I got fron my local co-op in the bulk section.
It did well considering how shot my carpets are (I dont think anything can save them but the big stains are for the most part gone)

I've had great luck with Dr. B's. I then do a good rinse with vinegar and tea tree oil.

Hi Ian :)
I agree, the Dr. B's works well (and the house will smell great too!)

Oh! Awesome point!! I love all the smells of Dr. Bronners. Now I won't be able to decide which one to use. :)
It's actually for my friend's house, and I actually came across a realization - I got rid of my carpet cleaner last time I cleaned out storage - DOH! But she's going to rent one, and I've convinced her to try something other than the cleaner.
Oh, should I get her almond, lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus... Oh, I think I'll do eucalyptus - her cat keeps bringing in fleas, couldn't that help?
in a hurry but the peppermint will help w fleas :)

Okay, I've actually heard that the best way to clean carpets is just water, nothing else. Anything else will leave a reside which will attract dirt in the future.

I got a natural rug cleaner shampoo, by Ecos brand, at my local hfs when I steam cleaned mine...it worked great, and I only used 1/2 of the recommended amount :)

plain water sounds wisest, but truthfully, I can't wait to smell a whole house up with Dr. Bronner's. LOL
