View Full Version : How much time do you spend at the library?

I'm starting to think it is my second home. I aim for once a week, but lately it has been twice a week. All my holds tend to come in the minute I get home and if I don't get them within 5 days they reshelf them.
Also, are you in and out quickly? Or do you spend time hanging out? I was just curious how other families use the library.
Mostly, we hang out. They have kids computer games that my DC play. While they are doing that, I read magazines that can't be checked out yet.

We go once a week. Whether we stay and hang out or grab and run depends on if Marcellus is sleeping or not. He's a runner and they have an amazing sal****er aquarium right outside the children's section that he always takes off for. Of course, the aquarium is right next to the elevator where he has been known to push buttons and try to board, and the stairs where he could climb over the low railing and plummet two stories down into the concrete fountain  Library trips, unless I have just the older two, are quite stressful for us!!!!
ETA...silly word filters!!! Now really...I can't even type S A L T W A T E R here? I think there should be an exception if the word T W A T is in the middle of a real word!!!!!!!

We go once a week. I have the librarians pull all of our school books and we go to browse for fun books.

I'd really like to go once a week. That would be great. My older boys love being there and my oldest reads so much that the 10 books he checks out just aren't enough to last the week. I'd like to have time to look for myself also.
That being said, we've only been going once a month. :o
DH has been working so much that he can't watch the kids for us to go. It is way too hard for me with the 2 girls and even Grant. Leah and Grant love to run around in there and I just can't grab them both while looking for books and keeping Elise happy.
I just found out that I can get the call numbers for books online so that should help me out. I won't have to stand at the computer so long looking for numbers. I"m going to try going again tomorrow. We'll see.
I feel bad for McKrae and Westley because of all the things we can't do because I'm so overwhelmed with the little ones. Having five is really taking some time to get used to. I'm pulling my hair out half the time. :juggle:
I don't think our librarians would pull books for us. Actually I don't think we have many librarians that work there. Most of the people are there just to check out the books and check them back in.

Friday is our Library Day. I stick with one day so it's easier for me to remember when everything is due. LOL!!!
I'd love to spend more time there than we do. Most of the time tho I get really tired of chasing my youngest or keeping her happy (she likes to practice being "2" when we are out in public...throwing fits for NO reason!! lol).
We go once a week, on Tuesdays. Sometimes twice a week - but usually just once.
We normally spend 1-2 hours there. If Sam had his way, it would be more like 4 hours. No wonder the library staff loves him. It's like Cheers, he walks in and they all say "Sam!" :)

lol *salt water*:hahaha:
Our library is right next to a big park and grassy area. So, on sunny days we are in and out, taking our books over to the park. On rainy or gloomy days we can spend hours looking around.
We used to have a set day where we would attend a story/craft time and then check out books, but the story time got so busy that you couldn't even hear the librarian:confused:

We used to go more often - at least once a week. Guess I'll have to start that again now that winter is coming. We usually just pop in and out. Our schedule is too tight to spend much time there - I really need to work on that.
Our library has an online catalog, so I can do my searches from home or work, place holds, and be notified by email when my books are ready.

twice a month. But that's only because our local library sucks and I have to drive 2hrs one way to get to a library  so I spend a ton of time online finding books and putting them on hold. Thankfully it's a large system so all my books come in together and I can recheck out online. Plus I can get 30 books on each card, so far it's been good. Now if I could only find a HFS in the area it would make the trip so much more worth while.

We love the library and have a very good branch fairly near us - unusual since we live in the boonies. The librarians are very nice there, and very supportive of homeschooling. My children would go every day if I let them. We usually go at least once or twice a week. Wednesday is my favorite day to go because we go right by the farmer's market on the way home.
In the summer, any day is fine since the local Amish farmers have semi-permanent stands set up right by the library parking lot. Amish produce, cheese, and a zillion books right there together. What could be better?

We go en masse once a week ("held" books are kept out for 7 days so folks who only go 1 day per week can make it in on "their" day -- that 5 day rule for holds stinks). I print out a list of what I'm getting for school before we go...I can also renew books online, place holds, etc. The kids settle in to do a craft, I go round up the books, then we browse a bit. It takes 30-60 minutes, and it's wonderfully peaceful now that I'm no longer running after a toddler up and down the aisles.
We used to spend over an hour there every time we went, what with story time, wanting to try the computer games, making a craft, doing puzzles.
Sometimes I go by myself later in the week, then. Woohoo, life in the fast lane -- a trip to the library by myself! I need to get out more, don't I.

I'm with you librarymama. I love a trip to the library all by myself. What freedom:)

I agree...I love to sneak off by myself. It's the best when I get a chance to peruse the shelves and not just get the books on my list. I'm going to have to do this after Thanksgiving :)

Well, call me the bad homeschooling mom. We go maybe 1x month. We always keep our books too long also, never return them on time (our library doesn't charge fees, thank goodness). For some reason, I feel stressed at the library with the kids. We can spend hours in the used book store though. <shrug>
I do love books. We have tons of those.
