Ds age 5 is having trouble with small motor skills. Paper activities are where I notice the problem the most. Hand-eye activities and patterns to be specific.
Sorry so choppy, Esther wants to eat the keyboard with all her little heart.
I found that Lego really helps with small motor coordination. Other things that help are coloring pages with a fair amount of detail and drawing with chalk. We have also used cutting pages, where there are a bunch of balloons and he cuts up the string of each balloon (or kite, or whatever). Sometimes the strings are straight, sometimes curvy, sometimes zigzaggy. I have him put a small sticker on each balloon/kite when he cuts the whole string.

Tara, it's weird but he can do all those things and I think he can do them well. I am amazed how well he cuts and colors and he loves building with his legos (he has the larger ones). Esther is playing momentarily on her own so I can explain more.
We are using the sonlight Pre-K with Marcus. It is mostly reading but there is one workbook that is designed so that it is an indicator of problem areas. I have been thrilled with this workbook because it helped me to make the decison to hold off on teaching Marcus to write.
The basic premise is that there are certain skills needed to read and write well. marcus has the other skills down pat. there are 5 activities in 12 different skills. He passed all activities except in the area of motor skills where he failed all but 2. he passed on pattern and one hand-eye. BTW there is also a left-right category in motor skills which he aced.
The pattern activites is not perceiving patterns but following them on a dotted line.

I don't know if this will help, but here is a link to print tracing activities on dotted lines:
