The child automatically gets WIC. It has no relationship with you or your income. We chose not to use WIC for our foster son, as we felt the stipend we receive more than covers his expenses at this point. So, I don't know the details on formula choices.

I am so happy to hear that your husband is excited about fostering, too:thumbsup:

Every state is probably different. In NJ the baby can sleep in the parent's room up to 2 years of age but they must have a crib and the room must have a certain square footage (basically at least 10 x 13 feet).

As far as organic formula goes - is there one that is approved for use with infants? The only one I've seen says that it is intended only for babies 12 months of age and older unless directed by the child's pediatrician - I forget the name, though - Organic Baby maybe?

Our state rules are the same. A baby may stay in a fp room up til age two.

All foster children automatically get WIC (if they qualify age-wise).

If the baby automatically gets wic, do you have to choose from certain brands of formula, etc or can you get what you want?
Usually there is one main brand that your state will contract with for the formula. I don't know about your state but here you get Similac.
I've heard you can get a different brand if your baby is having problems and you can get a prescription from your doctor for it, but I'm not sure how that works and, again, that may also vary for your state.
I'd go ahead and give the WIC clinic near you a call and ask them! :)
Good luck!

I just saw the Horizon formula at Whole Foods. I saw it's $33, but I have no idea how long that would last????

Thanks everyone! I am glad we can keep the baby in our room. I checked out the WIC & found out the brand they use.

About the organic formula - I had assumed that Baby's Own was an infant formula since it has "baby" in the name - but at the health food store today I looked & sure enough it is a toddler formula. The Horizon is an infant formula though - maybe that is why it is about double the cost of the Baby's Own?

Probably why - infant formula has to meet pretty strict federal standards, organic or not.
