is there anyone in here that lives around the oakland area who has land that they are willing to share? i have been wanting to move out there and am going to be in aug. 05.. but i wanted to find alternative ways to save some money.. i have a friend that lives on some property in colorado.. 2 acres of this families land in exchange for paying their property tax of $800/year.. i was also looking into agricultural exemptions of land.. some people might need a certain amount of their land to be farmed or livestock raised on to be able to qualify for an agricultural exemption.. if you know of anyone who would be willing to talk to me about this.. please pass on the word. Thanks so much,

Davis or San Jose... Can't remember which right now, but they have a farm that you can stay on for free, you provide shelter, in exchange for work.
I also think they have Yurts on the property too for a fee. Lots of college kids and summer travelers do this to save money.
Might want to look up community/agriculture exchange or internship in google... I am pretty sure it is either Davis or San Jose...

Just wanted you to know that likelihood of finding homesteading land around there in particular and miles each way near it are not likely at all. ;)

thanks so much to everyone for all of the help. :D
laeley did you see the post buy I think it was luckyfarm something or other that was offering a place on their farm? I think it is on the opposite side of the country, but sounds like a fantastic deal.
