Okay, I just switched DS (18 mos) into cloth, so I don't have any sort of newborn/small stash.

I'm getting geared up to start building up a stash for the new babe and am trying to decide what I need.

A little info: DS was 12 lbs at birth, so obviously "newborn" dipes would not have been a good plan. He was in size 3/6month clothes by two weeks old, lol.

So WWYD for this next babe? I'm thinking he/she won't be a delicate little thing, by any means. I don't necessarily expect another 12-lber, but I didn't expect the first one, lol.

I'm thinking I don't want to buy any "newborn" dipes, as they'd be too small? Maybe just start with some smalls? Or would you just go with prefolds? I don't know! I also don't know how many dipes I'll need for a newborn or what type would work best. (I know that every babe is different, so different dipes fit differently - could I use the word "different" one more time in this sentence, lol?)

What type of dipe has worked best for your newborn (ie, prefold, fitted, AIOs, etc)? And how many did you need in order to have a life outside the laundry room? :p

Thanks,

Kinsey

For each of my newborns, I preferred prefolds. I then put them in one size dipes by two months or so. I like having at least 3 dozen dipes in the newborn period. I had 4 covers, and that was NOT enough. I don't know about size, but I would be pretty tempted to do the small dipes, not newborn, in your situation. My kids were both early, so we used newborn dipes easily for the first two months.

I also recommend going to a few websites that have reviews. Green Mountain diapers and Diaperware are not too overwhelming. Good luck!

I never liked prefolds. We tried them and ended up using them as burp cloths. They were more work then we wanted i guess.

We prefer AIO's and use our own mostly but also love some other great wahm diapers. mud pies, FMBG etc (but they are hard to get and can be pricey)
Also fitteds, our own but love some others.
Good luck! Happy Shopping

Kissaluv newborns take you to about 15 lb. They are snap on so easy to use on a squirmy newborn and its easy to get the fit right each time because unlike a pin or snappy the same snap makes it fit the same way. They also have a snap down to expose the umbilical cord which is really nice and keeps it from getting irritated.

Goodluck

I too would just go for smalls and have only 2 or 4 newborns on hand.
