Im such a pest today - LOL

Im working on a poncho pattern - yes, Im currently obsessed, still in my jammies and determined to figure this out. :D

Ive come to the realization that I may be going about this wrong. If I just cut a large square with a hole in the center, I should be able to use the hoodie pattern pieces that I already have, right? My next question is, how to tell how wide the hole needs to be to fit a KS hoodie?

I guess Im just not sure how to measure the wavy neckline on the hoodie piece. Holding it end to end gives me 9 inches but should I account for more because of the waviness?

I then compared the hoodie measurement to the neckline of the shirt. The shirt appears to be 5" in diameter - bigger than the hoodie piece. I guess Im just a little confused because when the hoodie is attached to the neck of the shirt, it overlaps a little...

Can anyone help stop the insanity? :rolleyes:

I got this fleece from Sherrie today and then I read your post adn went to make a snowflake poncho. :)

First I cut out a square this one is a 26" square. (this is a 2t)

then I folded it in quaters corner to corner and used my 2t KSFT hoodie pattern to cut the neck hole. I made sure to leave 1/4" of the shoulder edge of the pattern off of the fleece to acomodate for the seam allowance that you won't be using.

then I flipped it over and did the same thing using the back pattren peice

I didn't take a pic of the hoodpart because you do it exactly the same way you would in a shirt. The dood will be a tad smaller around than the neckline but you just stretch it to fit the same way you would ribbing.

I'd say it took me less than an hour, cut to finish (including the fringe) if you factor out the several phone calls and stopping to help HUnter a few times. It would be faster on the serger but I used my sewing amchine because I have black thread in the serger and I hate to change it out. lol

It looks like you used the t-shirt pattern pieces and not the raglan like the book suggests. Do you find that they work interchangeably? Which way do you have the stretch going or do you think it really matters?

I noticed I used the t shirt pattern too, while I was *posting* the pics for you! LOL SO I guess the are pretty much the same size opening. LOL

Use it with the stretch going across just like you would if you were making a shirt, though I suppose it really wouldn't matter as long as it stretches over her head. lol

I think I can answer this...:D

I would use the kids arm measurements - from neck to wrist. The KS books recommend that you do so with the elbow slightly bent when doing so for shirts. Then add your hem and seam allowance.

I measured Dani to be 13" from neck to wrist and then added a inch, so I would make a 28" square. I hope that made sense, but Michelle might have a better explaination.

Truthfully I just eyeballed it because Callan was asleep but that is the measurement I was going for. LOL
