Mamas,

I always fight iron deficiencies (sic) and I am feeling it with such horrible tiredness.

I have stomach problems so dried fruit causes me a lot of pain.

Other than raw spinach salad....(I get sooo tired of that)

What easy healthy whole foods snacks are there that are high in iron and are yummy tasting?

thanks mamas....I need to get this turned around soon.

I think dulse (a kind of seaweed) is a yummy snack. I was always munching on it after I found out my hemoglobin was low when I was pregnant.

How about things made with molasses? Do you prefer to bake your own snacks? If so, maybe make breads and snack bars with molasses?
Or try a fresh fruit smoothie with greens powder (they make seaweed added ones for extra iron) and add protein powder to it, which often contains iron. I do this and it seems to really help. I have been craving them on days I am late making one. :)

Oh, nuts? Or fresh nut butter with pita squares or veggies dipped in it?

pumpkin seeds have a VERY high iron content. Just fry them up in a little Braggs (a soy sauce tasting amino acid suppliment) and eat... yum. Oh and if dried fruit gets to you, try making a whole grain cereal (like steal cut oats, rolled oats, or seven grain cereal) and drop the dried fruit in it when you start it cooking. The fruit gets soft and any nutrients that you loose by cooking are in the cereal. :D

Dried Mangos are good and now Trader Joes carries the nonsulfer kind - they have a decent amount of iron for a nice snack:)

Hey all of you!

THANK YOU!!!!!

I will put those ideas into place and look for those items when I go shopping tomorrow.

I just know I am hurting for iron...I really am dragging and hate the feeling.

Thanks again. I did not think of ANY of your suggestions. I needed them.

Someone mentioned Seaweed. That reminded me of my favorite snack food. Not really sure on the Iron content though. They might not have enough Seaweed on them.

Organic Tamari with Seaweed Rice Cakes (http://www.lundberg.com/products/cake_og_tamari.html)

Best snack ever.

Another thing I do, is get the plain Rice Cakes, smother them with peanut butter (or favorite nut butter) and top with a bunch of raisins (both nuts and raisins are great for Iron).

Oh and Iron is supposedly easier absorbed in the presence of Vit C.

Hope this helps.
