Rockstar Scarf (http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall02/PATTrockstar.html)
I'm just wondering if that fuzzy yarn, the GGH Apart, is uncomfortable to have around your face and neck? It's $12 for one skein  so I'd hate to make it up and not be able to wear it!
I figure doing this pattern might get me over my fear of stripes (a.k.a having to change colors often!)
I wish I had someone local (besides my mom... ahem. NOT going there.) to teach me to knit. I think it's the fear of messing up that's keeping me from jumping right in!
The worst thing could be messing up, so? LOL! I bet you aren't afraid to rip out a seam when sewing, it's the same thing with knitting. Sure it's frustrating but you can always start over if necessary.
As for the scarf, no need to buy the same yarn, you can find some fuzzy eyelash yarns at Walmart, rub those on your cheeks and see if you like them. ;) I knitted an eyelash scarf for my mom 2 years ago and she wore it for 2 complete winter seasons. It wasn't all that warm but she was so proud. I used the cheapest kind and it never bothered her.
Since you are knitting the scarf flat it's not too scary the stripes. You can even add or knit up less rows per stripes it won't show too much. Don't sweat it knitting is supposed to be FUN!!! :joker:

Jo, I guess it's just that knitting intimidates me a lot more than sewing! I can look at my knitting and go 'oh, I made a mistake there' but not know what the mistake was, or how to fix it! Also, if I drop a stitch, even if I know it right away, I can never figure out which loop I need to pick up to get it back on my needle the right way. :( Is that the kind of stuff that you just learn to recognise after awhile? It's nervewracking to me!
(((Renee))) I feel the exact same way about SEWING! :p It breaks my heart when I sew not so right and what not! LOL!
Get yourself a good reference book, that will help with your confidence. I just completed a sweater and this for me, is a HUGE deal so I feel like I could knit anything for now. LOL! Sweaters were something that intimidated me for the past two years, others will knit that as a 1st project. LOL!
I saw this online and thought of you: http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall04/FEATfall04TT.html and http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter02/FEATtheresa.html. The 1st link talks about weaving in yarn ends and the second about picking up a dropped stitch. ;) This woman's articles are really interesting, do take the time to read them.
Relax!!! I feel like coming down to give you a hug, it's normal to be worried, just like I would need someone to hold my hand with my serger. LOL! ;)

Jo, I saw that sweater you knitted for Zoe in your blog, it's gorgeous! Maybe I'll have to drive up there so you can teach me how to really knit!
Hey Selissa, If you drop me a PM w/ your address, I have an extra knitting booklet around here that is like a beginners booklet, that teaches you the basics, and has a few patterns in it as well. (Since I read in another post that you owe the library money, lol! SOunds like me!)
