I got some Fresh Step per a recommendation. This lady SWORE up and down this is hand's down the single best cat litter out there. The one I had in the box was really good, but thought she knew her business since she has two cats. This stuff STINKS...the kitty odor NEVER leaves!!!!!!!! I scoop three times a day...ICK! It's a clay litter - bigger pcs...I am so mad! And gagging!

At Whole Foods there is the BEST kitty litter - it took us 10 years to find it - but it is great!! It is basically paper pellets - works sooooo well!!

I can't remeber the brand, but we got a crystal cat litter - and a covered box. And unless we've forgotton to scoop the poopies out and stir it up - no smells, and with one cat it gets changed only 1x a month!

We like Feline Pine because it leaves no smell. You only scoop the poop and the urine eventually turns it to sawdust. You toss it every few weeks and start fresh. It does track a little though since it turns to sawdust.

I second the crystal litter. I have 4 cats and the box never smells.

I like the clumping kind with crystals, but my FAVORITE is Tidy Cats Antibacterial in the yellow and GREEN (not red or blue) container.

I can rarely find the antibacterial kind, so the crystals is better than anything else.

Oh, and my spoiled butt recommends you get a liter maid cat box. I LOVE that I only have to change a bag of clumps every few days (I do it more b/c I am PG).

Covered cat boxes are GREAT for cat owners until the cat starts peeing outside the box (ask me how I know). Think how you'd feel if YOU had to go pee and poop in a tiny, enclosed, no-air-flow space. Unless you are cleaning it every day, it's gotta stink horribly to your kitty.

HTH!

HTH!

We've btdt with our old cats that died (the peeing outside of the box - once THAT starts it doesn't stop). I SO WANT the autobox...I'm not working now so I can clean the box...but once I start working, I KNOW i'll be lazy! I just can't afford the Litter Maid right now...poo!

I will look for the antibacterial kind...the kind I had left over from our old cats was the Tidy Cat - stupid me for listening to that lady...argh! It STINKS so bad I think I will dump the darn thing tonight and start over!

Our old cats had the covered boxes and I was thinking about getting one again...but I really want the auto one.

Oh, oh, oh! I would MUCH RATHER have a flushable litter! Or better yet train the kitties to use the potty! OH heaven!

No matter this litter STINKS so bad...DO NOT BUY IT is my recommend. They weren't stinky until I changed that dang litter yesterday. I had the box in my bedroom so they could find the box...I couldn't take the smell so it moved to the bathroom...now I can't use my own bathroom without nearly passing out! Good thing I'm in and out...for now anyway.

I found Feline Pine to work best for us.

Guess I'm not the only fan of Feline Pine. You've seriously got to try it, Heidi. I didn't think it would really work, but I was pleasantly shocked at how odor free and easy to do it is. Plus, if the kids should get into the bag, it's not "icky" and messy like regular cat litter.

My cats refused Feline Pine, and with many cats, it did not "hold up" for us. I actually, lol, love Fresh Step. :D I am sorry it did not work for you....I have 7 cats and swear you'd never, ever know it. I get the Fresh Step reg. or the crystal mixed one. But we also scoop 2 times daily, no matter what type of litter we use, to prevent bacteria and odor.

In the mean time, since you're not rushing off to buy new litter, I'd add 1/4 or so of a box of baking soda to the litter. I did this when we had 3 cats in the house and never had a problem. I think we used tiday cat but I don't remember since it's been so long. I liked to get the Arm and Hammer litter treatment since it had a fragrance to it but just plain baking soda worked fine. I'd always mix the litter up after adding it, too but I have no idea if that made a difference.

I use the Fresh Step scoopable. Not reg. clay one. Those tend to trap odor and since you cannot scoop out all the urine coated pieces, they stink. )o:

We use Scoop Away with crystals. We've tried just about every brand out there and like this one the best. We also use the Tidy Cats or Arm & Hammer deodorizers to help keep the ammonia smell away.

:ditto: I don't know what I did w/o this stuff. I love the piney smell and the fact that there's no silica dust to worry about getting into their (or our) lungs.

our kitty has issues with walking. neurological issues.

we found that he was urinating on the floor in the last house. we tackled the problem with various chemicals before we left. since he has problems walking, we decided not to keep the litter in the basement only - but have 1 box for him upstairs - he is handicap afterall. Well I hate having litter in my living space but what can we do? So we bought the crystals kind and we mixed it with scoopable at first. Now he pees in just the crystals. it doesn't track too much and it's unscented. it really doesn't smell bad and it's in our mudroom right off of the kitchen! UGH.

tell me more about feline pine, what is it?

YES! I didn't know that...and it's ICKY! I am dying here! When the air sprays don't work...ugh!

I am wondering since they are kitties if they won't mind the change to the Pine kind...they didn't mind the a switch from three litters in two days. I didn't realize I should have done it gradually.

Other issue I HATE, HATE, HATE...TRACKING! The little mats haven't worked in the past...I might try a berber rug sample or something...I hate litter tracked all over the house and this darn clay stuff is worse than anything...maybe because I can see the green things on my beige carpet.

YOu probably don't have a Trader Joe's close by, but they carry their own brand of it.
