It really was my fault and I don't blame him at all. My Toby cat had a burr in his fur that needed to come out before it started to rub him raw. So I decided to cut it out of his fur with scissors. He's a long haired cat, but the burr had buried itself pretty deep in his fur. I didn't cut him, but had to pull gently on the fur to make sure it wasn't close to his skin. He did not like that. He turned and bit me twice very very hard... broke the skin with two puncture wounds. I washed them with soap and water, put antibacterial ointment on them, and wrapped them in bandaids. Well, it's been 9 hours since the bite happened and they're oozing (I also had to go through 12 bandaids to stop the bleeding... they're not really deep wounds, but kind of just open). My entire arm hurts (even down in my fingers) and they're swollen. I've reapplied ointment and have continued to wash the wounds, but have taken off the band aids.
My DH says there's all kinds of diseases cats carry that are often transferred through bites. My cats are current on all shots and in good health. SHould I be worried??
BTW: the burr is out and he's a much happier cat now... go figure!

I'm not a vet mama, but I'm a medical mama...I think you should at least call the doctor and let them know. Cat bites and scratches can turn quickly into something nasty.
Take care, and ouch!!!!

Ouch Mama! I second calling your doctor. It sounds infectious.

:ditto:
Cat Scratch fever can be nasty....and get infected very quickly (as you've described) and you'll need med attention for it honestly. I was watching Emergency Vets or something a few months ago...a woman doing something with her cat, got bit and it was just icky!! Within 24hours! She had to see a doctor.

Yeah, cat bites can be nasty. It shouldn't warrant a quarantine of your cat, but definitely talk to the doc. It might mean a tetnus shot for you.
HTH and I am glad the kitty is happier. ;)

You really need to call you dr. My dad got bite by his cat and did not do anything about it until it almost to late. It got infected he wound up needing several trips to the dr because the site would need to be drained. It was awful and very painful for him.

The pain has also radiated down my fingers and up into my shoulder! YIKES!! I'm definately gonna see the doc i the clinic tonight. Thanks!
