i bind off and..then waht? do i jsut take it off the needles and iam done? i was reading at the knitting link i was given (Thank you!) and they said soemthing aobut blocking and finishing..so how do i make this thing tough enough to actually be worn?

so much to learn..i am aobut to try ribbign agian..wish me luck..and what aobut picking up stithces...howexactly does one knit into the space between the stitches?

and while iam at it what do you do iwth the end of the yarn from when you cast on?

Lol, you need a good knitting book from the library! Stitch & B!tch is a good one, with lots of pics. I am no good at verbally explaining things- I am a more hands on type of person.

Ok - first step, when you are all done, is to weave in the ends - that includes the actual _end_ and the beginning - what was left when you were done casting on...

Blocking can be done with a steam iron held over (not touching) your knitting, or pinned into place (i.e. on your carpet) and sprayed with water - when it dries, its all nicely shaped (the edges don't curl, and you can kind of change the shape....).

I think that's it...


Oh - to pick up stitches - I think you just pick up the bar between the two stiches on either needle...I don't know, I just wing it... :)

Don't worry about bugging us.. I love to talk about knitting. There's no one around me that is that interested, so I usually talk to my 5yo dd about it while she's playing w/ barbies :rolleyes:

I've only blocked once. It's not actually vital. I mean, it can be helpful and has it's place etc, but I personally don't consider it to be necessary.

I hate weaving in ends. I am not very good at it. But I do it. I get better. I take deep breaths.

Depending on how long that "tail" is that's left over from the cast on, I either wind it in itself (so I don't accidnetally use it for knitting) or hang it on a bobbin. I found some at a yard sale. I would have never bought one new, but now that I have some I'd buy more. :p When I'm done I weave that end in too, unless it's super long, then I weave the part closest to the knitting in and clip the rest.

Your library should have at least some books :( I hope you have some nice librarians to help you find them.

Of if your librarians are mean like mine you ask here ;)
