We have been working on making things routine and simple in school for a while. We have issues whenever something becomes complicated. Last year we had issues with loosing papers, being late because I had to drive him everyday, and with me not talking to the teacher enough, or her not communicating with me. We talked a lot at the end of the year on the phone. But by then Alex had some issues that were not able to be resolved, and it was a shame because the teacher was SO much better than the year before. (I was still a little gun shy from 1st grade then and I admit it.)
Well this year I had to go back and face those demonds. Alex had to go back to the school with that terrible teacher. The school he was in filled up and because he was out of the neighborhood he had to leave. Which sucked... because I did not even know that could happen (funny, I thought once a kid was granted into a school he should be able to stay there... but nope. ugh  ). So I had yesterday to get him into a school, because I was called on Friday by the principal of the other school and told he was not in it. (I had more time than that if you count when she said that he "may" not make it in, but only two weeks.)
Anyhow... I had a lot of demonds to face. He had been abused at the neighborhood school, and after the entire year of abuse and scorn by his horrible teacher the principal told me it was Alex's fault (HE WAS 6 YRS OLD!!!!!!). It took all I had just to consider it (I really did consider moving into the next district over, or renting an address for 6 months to get him somewhere else) I really had to suck it up to even go in there. But I did... and they have a new principal.. to whom I explained what happened (not details, but that it was terrible and I would not allow that to happen again) and really liked him. And yes it is a him... most likely he will be a little more sympathetic of a 8 yr old boys plites... or at least I can hope so.
I signed him up, and went to talk to his teacher. I LOVE HER. I really do... she is young (32 abouts), energetic, and kind. We had a great, long talk about what we had been through in the last two years, and about how everything is calming down, but there are some lasting issues that will need to be delt with, and some about his hyperactivity and problems before in class. She was receptive and kind about it all, and even asked if she could meet Alex before school started (meaning hours after I spoke to her for the frist time.) He did and came home talking about how he was so glad she was better than his last two teachers, and how he was getting excited. I think I opened the communication beautifully, BEFORE the year even started, and they were both receptive... it was so reasuring. :)
We started this year with a good feeling today... and he had a good day. We started him back on Flax Oil, we talked about ritual and routine. We found him a back pack (a cool OD green one that I put patches on) that only has one big pocket so things could not get 'lost' or confusing. We talked about noises in class and how he did not want to hurt this teachers feelings by not listening... and he had a great day. I will make his lunch... I don't care about the price. I think it is important that he gets good food... I think that will make a difference... and I have gotten a few things today at Costco that I can use to spruce that up a little.
He gets to ride the bus because he is in the school in our neighborhood... all of his friends meet him at the bus stop again. He was SO happy about that. (And it means that our one car situation is even easier).
All in all, (after all the babble) I think it will be a simpler year, and a good time for him... which is all I was looking for two years ago... I am SO glad we fianally found it.
