This year I want to avoid giving my kids the things we usually give. I am thinking cute PJ pants for my girls, REALLY plush towels with their names embroidered, and maybe some pictures for their room made with the scrap book supplies I hoard.

My family is very good about following my gift recommendations. Last year I requested a subscription to National Geographic, a family pass to the zoo and aquarium, and movie bucks since we can't afford to go to the movies as a family.

I would love some more suggestions! I *AM NOT* crafty and my children would not appreciate anything crafty anyway, so if you've got any ideas let's hear them!

books

a family trip that truly interests them

subscription to a noncommercial children's magazine

a few of their favorite mamamade treats (cookies, brownies, etc.)

dinner or lunch out at their favorite restaurant (not fast food)

a trip to a place where you can do crafty stuff without worrying about supplies, cleanup, etc (like those paint-your-own ceramic places, or beading shops)

family volunteer opportunities that make all of you feel good about giving back

Are you asking for gifts for your children or for you or both? I wasn't clear on that part.

maybe a gift cert to one of those pottery painting places?

do they like craft kits?

we're asking for our familiy zoo membership renewed or a membership to the science center this year.

do they play instruments? would an instrument/music or lessons work?
