We are not homeschooling; however, we were told that any foster children we have would have to attend public school (I guess, unless we wanted to pay and send them to private school). No homeschooling, period.

I am in Ontario, Canada & homeschool my children. The oldest (14) has chosen to start high-school in a couple of days. The rest will still be home-schooled. I have 2 foster dds & they "have" to go to school. I do know families who fostered and then when they adopted the children they took them out of school & they are now home-schooled.
I do know our "worker" wanted to know how we would deal with questions from our foster children regarding home-schooilng & why they had to go to school. I said we would tell them the truth and that is just the way things had to be.
There have been recent cases in Ontario where children were taken away & the "reason" was because the parents were home-schooling. But I know other home-schooling families who do foster!! I figure if I am already a foster parent then I don't have to worry about some silly lady in the grocery store calling CAS on me for not having my kids in school & at the store instead since CAS will "know" who I am. LOL!!
We have foster a 9 & 12 year old so they are in school during the day when we are "home-schooling". Our kids learn at their own level, pace & how they want.

Hi! I'm in AZ, and we foster and are hoping to adopt. It actually asks on the state application what you think your responsibilites are as a foster parent regarding making sure a foster child receives proper education, including homeschooling! We were homeschooling, but aren't now, and were told that most foster kids would need to go to ps, but could ask on a case-by-case basis..........

AFAIK foster kids cannot be homeschooled. I wouldn't think it would be a problem to homeschool your own kids though. And shouldn't be a problem for adoption either unless you just happen to get a caseworker who is very openly opposed to homeschooling. I would think the law's onyour side though. ;)
