We've had our cat for about a 7 months now. She is about 3 years old and is a really great cat most of the time. The problem is that she pees on things (mostly my things). It started about 3 months after we got her. She started peeing in our closet (if there was anything on the floor she'd pee on it...if there was a laundry basket on the floor she'd pee in it (didn't matter if it was empty or not). Now she pees on anything on the floor. I had one of my patterns spread out on the floor the other day and went to iron the fabric I was going to use to make it. When I came back she had peed on it:mad: There is nothing physically wrong with her. DH swears he keeps her box really clean (I'm pg so I try not to go near it...pretty good excuse lol). Now I was putting things away in our closet and she has pooped in there too!! Her box is in our laundry room and so is her food. I'm wondering if she doesnt like going in there because she doesnt want to go so close to her food? Or if she doesnt like having a covered box? I don't want to put her box upstairs because I know DH would never change it then. She doesnt seem bothered by the noise of the washer and dryer as she lays on the floor in there all the time. Help!! What can I do? We're trying to keep everything off the floor, but that's really hard with a 2 year old. The playsilks have gotten peed on, L's blankets get it once in a while...I don't want to get rid of her, I love her...but I am soooo grossed out! We just had this house built in October...I don't want to see it ruined the first year!

Also, I'm assuming I shouldn't be the one to clean up the messes in the closet because of the toxoplasmosis thing (please tell me that's the case so I have an excuse to make DH do it!:) )

I sure wouldn't want MY food by my crapper. Would YOU? :p Try changing the brand of litter. My cat continutally pooped outside the box and when we changed litter brands, it stopped for a while. Then, it started back up again and we eventually had to get rid of the cat. I couldn't take cleaning up smelly cat poop daily and dealing with a newborn. So, the cat had to go.

Have you had her into the vet to make sure it's not a UTI or kidney issue or otherwise? I'd start with that personally. Cats "show" you they need help by urinating on things, and she may indeed have a medical issue going on. Otherwise, I'd move her box away from her food....it is true that many cats do not like food mixing with their potty smells. You may also want to get another litter box style and see how that works. Or a different type of litter. Most seem to prefer unscented clumping type as it most resembles dirt. It may also be behavior if she is lonely or bored or not getting enough attention. Have you considered a friend for her?

I would get the cat checked. I had the same problem and did everything I could with one of my kitties(I have 3). We had gotten this one from the pound at 5 years old and she started doing this from day one. I took her to the vet and turned out there was nothing wrong with her. Luckily we live in Fl and have a attached garage so she lives in there and outside. I miss her terribly though:( .Then I remeber that one of the things she liked to pee on was me and I don't miss her cuddling on my lap or in my bed anymore!:eek: I tell ya,that was the one time that I really hoped that when I brought the cat to the vet that there was something wrong! So I could fix it! I did everything I could and spent $$$.For the the Doc to tell me that my cat had a pee fetish!:(

My cat did that, I had her checked for UTI, the test came back unconclusive, but we treated her anyway. It didn't help. The advice that the vet's office gave me was to keep her in one room, with access to her litter box & food, and as she got better about using the box, allow her more freedom. This didn't work for us, as she just peed on the floor of the bathroom. Finally I decided that I couldn't do it anymore, and at about the same time, she got out of the house. She now lives in our basement, where she has access to outside, and is quite happy, much more affectionate, doesn't hide anymore. She just did not want to be inside. At all.

I think you're on the right track. Take the cover off her catbox. Cats like to be abl eot see around them so they feel safe.

And move her food bowl away from her litterbox. Cats don't like to eliminate where they eat. Know where you should put it? That's right--in your closet. Put a food bowl anywhere she's been having accidents.

2 more things.., 1) Use vinegar to clean everywhere you know of that she's peed, so she isn't attracted to those places anymore. 2) Make sure you are using unscnented, non scoopable littler. Some cats are very sensitive to the scents and others don't like ho0w the scoopable stuff gets caught in their pads.
