I am not talking about a debt consolidator, but rather someone who can help you analyze your relationship with $, help you get to the root of the problem and then help you work out a plan. I have not seen anything like this in the yellow pages-I definitely do not want to see a financial planner and I don't really think we need to see a marriage counselor, though that might help us with some of the communication issues we have about $.

I am just so tired of trying different plans and not being able to stick with them for one reason or the other. We need someone to force us to deal with some of the underlying issues we have regarding our relationship with money. I really think that only then will we be able to break out of the cycle we are in now!

Any suggestions anyone? I really don't think that we can do this on our own :(

I haven't but I would really like to! I am home with the baby now, we have moved 3 times in the last 3 years, I just finished grad school and found out I was pregnant. We have school debt, credit card debt from the moves, and a car we are paying off. My dh can't find a permanent job. I would really like to talk to someone who knows what they are doing! We have no savings and I just know that is not a good way to live. Please let me know how things work out for you if you go see one! Good luck!

My insurance will cover couples counseling, so I am looking into that right now. Hopefully that will be good for us, and maybe we can get a referral to someone who also specializes with money issues in a relationship. I assume though that since finances is one of the major stresses in a relationship that any marriage counselor would have plenty of experience with that. I know there are plenty of underlying reasons why we have such a hard time keeping on track and it will be nice to have someone mediate between us and make us accountable to one another. If I come across any earth shattering solutions I will share them :)
