Did any of you eliminate certain foods from your diet when breastfeeding? Did you feel it really made a difference?

Emma is having lots of gas, though she's not extremely cranky. Her BM's have been less seedy, and more darker colored than they have been. I read online where dairy is the number one irritant, but I am finding it hard to find things to eat without dairy. I didn't realize how much dairy was in things. I think I might call her pediatrician tomorrow and see what she suggests.

wheni finally admitted that ds probably had a dairy problem and quit (it took awhile caue iwas a diary addict and tried EVERYTHING else first) over a month his bm's got better, his mood got better, and his sleep got better. so i would say if you think your dc is havigna food reaction to give it a try, wheat is also soemthing that can give babes problesm..and you might start keeping a food jouranl and writing down everything you eat and how dc is acting that day..betweent the two you mightfind a pattern
hth and good luck solving your mystery

With Aidan I tried cutting out caffeine (gurl you KNOW how hard that one was for me!), dairy, certain veggies like cabbage and asparagus, anything spicy...... none of those ever worked. The kid is STILL VERY gassy. LOL.

If you're having a hard time cutting out the dairy you could try everything else first. Then if none of it seems to work then you'll know it's worth a try giving up the dairy and can just cut back at first and go from there.

I did give up dairy with my first during pg and during her first three months and the gas and spitting resolved some but not all. It helped me to know that it would not be forever, most babies resolve the intestinal thing after the first three months. After that I slowly started adding dairy back to my diet. I substituted milk with soy milk, I eliminated cheese. We relied a lot on stir fries for dinners. I made scrambled eggs with veg oil instead of butter. It's tough but not impossible and if it helps it is well worth it in the rewards of peace for you and your baby. Good luck!

We've eliminated dairy for the most part - his poop was the consistancy of urine and when I stopped direct dairy (I am not over-viligent about things that have dairy in them as a minor ingredient) the consistancy improved. We might need to give up wheat too, I had sensitivities to wheat and dairy as a child so there is a precedent. I am really reluctant to give up wheat, its such a staple in my diet right now but he is feeding for a few moments and then pulling off and crying angrily, or sometimes he'll just cry while still latched on. My LLL leader thinks it might be a)my let down is too strong b)wheat or other sensitivity c)thrush. Both b) and c) would be helped by eliminating wheat so I am approaching the idea gradually.
