If anyone in the Tampa area watched Life around the Bay Monday, you saw the benefits of breastfeeding story. I emailed them after the show after Heather asked the IBCLC about milk banks for mothers who couldn't breastfeed. I emailed them bacause of the way the questioned was answered (it gave the impression anybody could go and buy banked milk for their baby). Well, Heather wrote me back and asked if my ds and I would do an interview profiling Milk Banks. My ds got a new prescription for more milk (by chance) the next day so they want to do a taping of us getting the milk from the UPS man. :D
2 things:
#1: If you had a chance to say something regarding milk banking to the general public, what would you say? I have been told the segment will be 4 minutes long...the questions and answers may take up about half of that. I want to make good use of the time!
#2: If you live in the Tampa area and get channel 10 (cbs) news with Reggie, Marty, Heather & the rest of them, and know about Life Around the Bay at 4pm...email me if you want to know when they are doing the interview. I don't have a set day yet, but it would be on the 4 o'clock show sometime next week ;cool: (unless they change their minds).

Congrats on the publicity!
I don't have any answers for you b/c I haven't heard much about banking although I would consider donating (still too much milk) once my baby hits a year old & I stop creating my own stash.
Good luck

Thanks Steph, you have always been thoughtful and kind. Everyone should have your picture on their wall to remind them of the love that still exsists today!

Hey Steph, don't you have *friends* here? Can't you find anyone willing to touch my thread? It seems like I posted the title wrong, if I don't get many replies, I suppose I am going to have to look like a deer in the headlights on live TV!

Hey, I'm in Tampa! :)
Let me know when the interview is so I can watch it. I loooove channel 10 news. Nice to "see" someone else from my neck of the woods.

I sure will Janet! Isn't channel 10 great? They seem to be focusing on breasts a lot, but in a good way! Heather Van Nest has been the one emailing me, I should know within the next few days. I'll let you know!

Nope.... I have no friends... no one likes me... they say I smell funny. :wah: :wah: :wah:
:joker: ... BUMP!
What information would you (general you) want to see on a story about milk banks? ....
* Money (tax deductible... gotta mention that!!) donations are welcome in addition to milk donations. Gotta appeal to the potential non lactating donors too.
Would the banks give you a short list of what they would like promoted about them?

I can't think of anything and the milk bank hasn't emailed me the brochure (pdf) with the latest statistics on the children and adults they help with medical problems.
I know they could use donations, but the only thing is with Hurricaine Charley everybody is giving to the families who lost everything. Heck, we have been gathering up all our pennies for the humane society already!
I want to point out during the interview that *most* mothers would be able to breastfeed their baby (and pump if they work, I mean milk donors are shipping 150-200oz at a time AND feeding their baby!).
Obviously that breastmilk *is* the best milk, seeing as it is prescribed to sick babies. Just because their baby is a healthy baby doesn't mean the BM doesn't have benefits!
BM has saved lives through the milk bank and who knows how many have been saved by women who nursed their babes.
I have a feeling most of what I said here would get cut from the segment for fear of hurting ff'ing moms so I need to know what I can say without it being cut from the interview!

I'm from Tampa! I think it's neat you get to do this.
I'd love more info on how to donate. I still have too much milk. :D

The interview has been set on hold because of the political circus in New York. Those boobs are more importants than these boobs.
