View Full Version : how do you choose which faith you want to follow?
Hi, it's my 1st time on the spiritual board.
I don't really have a strong faith in anything, I would like to start a new spiritual faith. How do I find which one is for me, us?
Do you all just kept the same 'religion' your parents were into?
Thanks for any 'light' on this! http://www.amitymama.com/images/icons/smile.gif

Jo, no answer, but I am dying to know! I was born into a Catholic family and while I respect it, I don't really feel like it's my place to be. But I do feel like I am seriously lacking in the spiritually department! I find that there are certain things that I follow in regards to Catholic law that I do without even thinking! LOL! Like no birth control, fish on fridays, and praying to Mary for intervention. But other than that, Im a wonderer! LOL! If you figure it out, LMK! Mona

I guess you could say I kept the same faith as my parents--at least that is how it looks from the outset LOL.
BUT....I was raised Catholic in name only. We did go to Church, but we were never really taught about our faith or what we believed.
I took my own path through high school and college and researched a ton. I read lots of books on spirituality and faith and lots of Catholic Church documents. It was then that I actually *chose* the Catholic Church as best fitting for me.
So, I guess that would be my recommendation. Read and research! Find people who are like-minded and see if they have found a belief system that closely fits those beliefs. There is a quiz you can take that tells you with what faiths you are most closely aligned. I'll look for it and add it to this thread in a minute. I am not a quiz taker and think most of those things are pretty silly (probably from my psychology degree which required me to know those quizes inside and out LOL), but I actually liked this one!!!

It's funny but I didn't know how my post would be viewed as and I'm happy to see that people are understanding to what I am going through! Just wanted to say thank you! :o)
Mona, I think I remember you saying you lived in Miami before is this right? Is Miami a very Christian area? I'm thinkingwhere you live probably has a lot to do with the religion you practice!
Thank you Holly for the link I'll try the test and see from there! :o)

Follow what's in your heart..if it is open, you will find the right path for you..sometimes heading fervently down just one, closes doors to others..
I was raised Ortho-jew, studied Eastern, married Christian and now follow only what's spoken directly to my heart during prayer...much easier to follow G-d than following 'religious beliefs'....just use what makes you spiritually comfortable and read and learn everything you can...
