Some of you know but basically my mom came sick to Angie's party and got 3/4 of the kids sick. She did not want to tell me cuz she did not want me to stress. Thanks mom.

I sent out an email the morning of to tell those attending that Angie was on day 8 of a cold that was not clearing up in case they decided to back out cuz the list included three newborns, one mama who was close to being in labor and my neighbor who has a comprimised immune system. Only one mama and the neighbor chose to stay safe at home but my mom came anyway. And she told me that my email about my daughter having a snotty nose was rude cuz it made people feel unwelcome.

So little did I know she had puked all Friday morning. Se had a great party and then Saturday I started hearing about all these sick kids and I keep learning of more.

My friend Danielle cleaned up puke from her 3rd sick child all night long and had a baby this morning. Nice huh?

Charlie puked all day Sunday on Angie's birthday when we were going to celebrate as a family. And Angie had diarreah. Angie puked one time on Sunday. She seemed a bit sick with diarreah yesterday and then she started puking last night and puked literally 14 times last night, dry heaves too. Charlie who was perfect all day yesterday puked twice last night. Anyway my question, Angie won't quit puking and she had two horrible diarreah filled diapers today.

Do I nurse? One friend who tandem nurses a 4 year old told me no. She said Angie needs two hours with nothing in her tummy to heal. I don't know what to do. I am worried about her getting dehydrated. But she pukes up after every nursing anyway.

This really sucks. I am so so pissed at my mom. Oh and I am ****ting green twinkies too.

i say nurse if she wants. even though she pukes she will still absorb some which will help keep ehr hydrated.

will she take anyhting like recharge..even a teaspoon? that is really good too.

are you feeding her other stuff besides just nursing her?

I would stop other foods and slowly nurse her.

Someone mentioned in another group i belong to that when a sick baby nurses she sends germs to the breast and the breastmilk somehow creates an antibody that helps make the child get better.

I know it would be hard to not let her nurse when she wants to.

breastmilk is the most natural and gentle thing she could be getting.

i personally wouldnt stop. My son had a short puking jag when he was about 14 mos old so ive sort of btdt.

(((hugs to mama and baby))). I hope angie feels better soon..

Our pedi always says to nurse as much as the child wants as long as puking doesn't upset them too much. My DS is prone to stomach bugs just like me but puking doesn't really upset him so we let him eat and drink what he feels like and I always nursed him as much as he wanted when he was sick and still nursing. Even if she throws most of it up she is still absorbing some fluid and nutrients to keep her going and stave off dehydration.

As always, follow the child's cues. ;)

I say let her nurse! I've always figured that when they are that sick, they need SOMETHING to rehydrate them, and breastmilk is perfect. Sure, it may come right back up, but it is so easy to absorb and digest that her body will get some of the benefits from it.

nurse on demand-just as if she were tiny and on no solids.

I would say nurse her, but take it easy so that she doesn't make herself too full. YKWIM?

Call me later if you're up to it!

be well.

When my kids were sick, the ped said to try to get them to wait at least 20 minutes after vomiting (but preferably an hour) before nursing as you want to get their stomach to stop having spasms before putting more into it.

Hope she feels better soon! (and you as well)

Our ped always encouraged me to keep nursing...they said breastmilk would help keep them hydrated. Gentler on the tummy. Hope all feel better soon :)

I was on the phone with Elizabeth and right after I posted this and she told me to nurse so I did and Angie fell asleep and she has not puked since. So it has been nearly three hours.

thanks all!

Like I said on the phone, better to have something puke than nothing at all.

I keep a case of Ginger Ale and a box of Saltines in the bathroom for emergencies since the *last* thing you want to do is run to the grocery store when you or your child is vomiting.

Yes, nurse. Your child needs the hydration. Always nurse. They do not puke as much as they take in even if it seems that they do. Your friend is wrong. :)

ITA! Even if she keeps it down for just 10 min, she's digested some.

Exactly. It is digested so quickly, she WILL get something from it. So nurse as much and as often as she wants. No solids though til she stops puking. And keep it light for a while.

I was told by our Dr to nurse on demand and that it was a 'clear liquid'
