Help! This is my second child. I nursed my first child successfully for 14 months, but I feel like I'm learning all over again. First off, Emma, who will be three weeks old on Thursday, has a very powerful suck and I've already dealt with painful, bleeding/cracked nipples. I believe we've weathered through the worst of that....thank God for lanolin!

However, now my biggest challenge is that Emma wants to be attached to me at all times. If I put her down, she cries. If I'm holding her, she wants to be nursing. Yesterday I nursed her on and off from 12 am until 1 am, from 4 am to 6:30 am, from 8:30 am to 10 am at which point I put her in her swing and let her CIO, then from 1 to 4:30 pm, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm, etc. Today, it seems like she's repeating yesterday. She has a little bit of a cold, so that may be a contributing factor, but I don't remember Adelaide being so demanding. Any comments or words of wisdom?

I think you do have to learn all over again with each child, no two are alike! Since your sweet little one is wanting to be held or carried, have you tried wearing her in a sling? The nursing non-stop is a phase that babies tend to go in and out of. My 11 month old will sometimes sleep thru the night without waking, on other nights he'll nurse the entire night (like last night *sigh*). I'm sorry I have no great words of wisdom, but you're not alone :)

I haven't tried a sling with either child. We had a baby bjorn for Adelaide, but since she plumped up so quickly (think Michelin man), she really strained my back in the bjorn so I gave it up quickly.

Definitely try wearing her. I would say go with a sling or wraparound carrier, but by all means try the Bjorn if that's what you've got. Put her in and start moving right away. Motion helps babies like being worn. BTW, it probably won't be long before she discovers that the world is a fascinating place, and then she'll want to look around instead of nurse all the time.

Any suggestions/comments about types slings and where to buy one?

Can you ladies point her towards the good but less expensive slings? With having a new little one I'm sure things are tight and all. ;) Also if she's anything like the the thought of spending alot on a first sling is somewhat daunting.

Hang in there hun and I'm proud of you for not giving up yet! I'm sure it's been VERY hard and this is not easy on you. It shows what a great mom you are and those girls are lucky to have a mommy who loves them so much. :heart:

Sorry! You know what, before I got my Moby I went to Walmart and bought a big piece of fabric and used that to see whether or not I would like it. The Moby is made from 100% cotton - I got 6 yards (if you're smaller you could probably use 4-5) and then I just taught myself how to use it from looking at the moby site - and from going to Peppermint's site and looking at the directions for the Didymos. If you need any help just PM me! I'd be more than happy to send you the piece of fabric I used until you find something!

I would think a pouch would have the easiest learning curve. I started with a ring sling and didn't get it figured out until my little one was almost 4 months old.

I would definatly do a search for pouches. where are you at? as sppn as it gets below 75 my first suggestionf fo ra newborn woudl be a Kangaroo Korners Adjustable Fleece pouch..or you could ask on the market board for soemone to make you something similar. Fleece makes, hands down the most comy and snuggly pouch or one shouldered sling.

If you ar eworried about her getting big really fast you might go the route of the asian baby carrier...hmmm elt me go get you some links....

the Asian Baby Carriers are considered soft carriers and traditional carriers so they are in both sections

here is a pic of my hubby using our abc. they are much more comfy than the bjorn type carriers because the baby is held closer to your body and isn't just dangling from your shoulders
