Nursing nightgown (http://www4.jcpenney.com/jcp/Products.aspx?DeptID=597&CatID=3459&CatTyp=DEP&ItemTyp=G&GrpTyp=SIZ&ItemID=0a3d739&ProdSeq=26&Cat=lingerie%26sleepwear&Dep=women%27s&PCat=maternity&PCatID=658&RefPage=ProductList&Sale=&ProdCount=34&RecPtr=&SearchIn=0&ShowMenu=) from the JC Penney catalog online.
Things like this bug me.

UGH, nice bottle!
S~
Edited to post that bottles are not all bad, but not a great way to promote a nursing nightgown.

OMGosh that is nuts!
Love that teddy bear print on the jammies though! May have to order one and use the fabric to make a blanket or something!!!
(we have baby stuff that has a bear laying on a moon with clouds and stars!!! I *love* bears and moons and stars!!!)

Perhaps the nursing gown just provide access to breasts for her DH.
My anger at this has nothing to do with the breastfeeding vs. formula debate - but come on...would you expect an add for a bottle to show a mother nursing?

That is annoying! I hate seeing nursing nightgown prints with pictures of bottles too, it's really common!

That is a rather odd photo. Perhaps they feared a decency lawsuit if they actually showed a woman's *gasp* breast *gasp* ?!
LOL, how funny! That is just ridiculous!

Well, ya know, we can't have our breasts hanging out everywhere, unless we are trying to be sexy! Isn't that why we have them?
That add is just plain ignorant!

They wouldn't even have to have the breasts exposed in the photo though.
That picture is rediculous.

I emailed them. That is just ridiculous. I asked what made them think a nursing mom would buy something showing a bottle.

If they were afraid to show her breastfeeding (which can easily be done without showing breast)-why have her bottle feeding. Can't she just be holding her baby.

That was *exactly* my thought on this. Several of my local friends called and/or emailed about the photo. Their catalog department has got to be wondering what is going on. ;)

Well, I didn't even notice the bottle when I first looked at the add, I was going to say that she doesn't appear to have just given birth to the baby that she is holding....but when I saw the bottle, I was livid.
they have another email coming their way.

I think my brain is broken now, can I sue them??
The ludicrisity (sp?) of the picture next to the text was too much.
Sorry, i'm having a hard time personally.....

My friend (the one who noticed this picture in the first place) emailed JC Penney, and actually got a response. Here's what she received.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your comments about the maternity nursing gown. We sincerely regret that our ad has offended you. It was not our intent.
Your comments have been forwarded to our advertising department for their review. The information provided is a great help toward future planning of our catalogs. The baby will not be shown with a bottle in future.
The JCPenney Company has a record of high standards in our approach to advertising and does its best to present our merchandise in an appropriate manner..
It *sounds* like all the calls & emails worked, and the next time they take pics, they will be a little more aware of what the heck they are doing. ;)

I have to admit I am pleased with their response. That is responsible of them to "fix" the problem. I was going to email them as well but I don't think I will now. It must have been a male who planned that ad not thinking about what the slits were really for (no bashing just stating)

Oh boy! Now maybe the next ad will show the mom with the typical "come hither" look (you know, you're supposed to look seductively at your nursling, right?) as she suggestively fingers the nursing slits to make them visable for the ad. :joker:

I emailed them too and asked if they would market their baby bottles with a picture of a nursing mom & babe.

Glad to see the positive response from JC Penneys. I'm going to let the PR staff at LLLI in on this. They enjoy seeing mamas advocating for breastfeeding and actually making a breakthrough.
Thanks, norasmama, for bringing this to light.
