Well, here's the situation... my twins are ALMOST 30 months old. They hardly nurse at all, but they always nurse to sleep, and lately they have been waking more and more to nurse in the night, which I used to sleep through, but not anymore. I am 5+ months pregnant, and I am startring to wonder how it will all work once the baby is here. The marathon bedtime and nighttime nursings are wearing me out in terms of rest and patience/pain tolerance. My milk supply is almost nil, so it's just dry sucking, sometimes for hours. I only have 2 breasts, and the baby is going to have to take precedence once he/she arrives.

We co-sleep, and I don't want that to end, really, but I think it's time to end the nursing as the only way to get to sleep thing... any ideas on what might work? I am at a loss, and the girls think the baby will just use the "other" breast- the one that isn't theirs!

How have others gotten past this problem? I imagine it's not as much of an issue with just one toddler and a new baby, but with two....

I am a little sad that they don't nurse during the day, I wasn't expecting them to wean yet, but I need the bedtime/early morning marathons to end, without a tonne of tears!

Thanks a lot, Mamas!

I will be watching this thread as we are currently tandem nursing and I'm pregnant. I have my girls down to 1-2 times per day but the 2 yr old does still wake and nurse in the night. I've been contemplating Dr Jay Gordon's nighttime weaning routine but haven't completely made up my mind about it, as I don't want to make this a traumatic thing.
