surely i am just slow. it takes me FOREVER to shell just a couple cups of pecans. i have tried paying attention and noting which way is fastest but i can't tell if any method really works better than another.

freeze them first. I have found that when we freeze any type of nut still in the shell, when we take them out and crack them they are so much easier to crack.
