Have you flown with pets? We have a 24 lb dog and a cat. We are able to carry on our cat, but the dog will have to go cargo I guess.
My mom is guilting me about how painful it is for animals down there because it's not pressurized like the cabin and that it's cruel to take her that way. We are flying, so we don't have a choice...do we? I am freaking out right now and really stressing about how to handle it.
Have you flown with pets? Did they live through it?

My husky/collie mix flew from JFK to SFO back when I was 6. She did well, but maybe things have changed in the last 25 years? LOL! Why not call the airlines and ask about it and/or maybe rent a car--or use your own if it's going with you--and drive with the dog and kids? (I'd do that but I've been dying to drive cross-country....)
we flew George the cat. He didn't mind a bit about flying and got lots of attention from all the kids coming over to see him. I think it was $50 to fly him.

depends on temperament. the cool as a cucumber 12 lb cat did relatively well. he just wanted extra loving through the kennel
the 102 lb rottie that used to defend my life tooth and nail was the nervy one but did okay. he was a bit dehydrated because he was panting too much. other than that he was fine.
it was their first time flying anywhere. we used delta and i think it was $75 each for cargo.
we actually had looked at pet movers but it wasn't going to be reimbursed and it was to the ridiculous tune of $2k for cat/dog from door to door WA to VA.
edited to add that we got the health cert from our WA vet and then shortly after arriving in VA i had em checked by a vet to make sure nothing was starting to brew. they were healthy. cat adjusted to the weather. dog hated it.

Wait, let me get this straight...you are DYING to drive clear across the country with 2 animals and 2 kids (one of them being a 2 year old)???? We can't drive 10 minutes without my 2 year old BEGGING to get out of the car! LOL
