I promised my 6yodd, 4yodd, 17mthdd that I would take them someplace special this week end because their older three sisters are gone for 3 days.

When I promised htis, I had Chuck E Chesse in mind. They have never been there. I also was unaware that we were going to be in a major money crunch this weekend so now I don't know where to take them.

I need some desperate-to-please-my-kids-who-are-not-spoiled-and-seldom-get-to-go-places-so-they-need-a-treat-while-sisters-are-gone ideas. Please!

Well, where do you live (near what major cities)?

Picnic at a Park.

Ice Cream at a McDonald's that has a play place? (Not very popular here I know, but our's is kept pretty clean & DD loves it). She stayed for 2 hrs last time! lol

Public pool.

I'll keep thinking.

Picnic by a lake or creek....swim/wade in lake....feed ducks cracked corn (safe and cheap, not bread).....Bring along treats you don't usually allow maybe? Or just have a fun, totally relaxed time there with no time constraints. :)

I don't live really near any major cities. I am an hour away from Ft. Worth.

I was really thinking someone would have some generic ideas that would work no matter wher you live. I thought about the lake but we have had so much rain this year that the water is really murky. The park is boring because we've BTDT. I can't think of anything else.

Any place to eat will probalby cost too much. The movies is too much. Put-put golf is too much. The zoo is too much.

ETA: I was posting while the last 2 people were. I answered your question before asking them.

Well, if you can wait til Tues, and have a United Artist or Regal movie theater around you, they are doing free movies. This coming week is Daddy Daycare & Jimmy Neutron.

check out your library

ours has passes for 6 to the childrens musume in town. they also have story time and puppet shows and other entertainment.

I have been checking out a new park in town every few days - new walk and new play area.

I sometimes take my kids to parks in other towns so they feel like they've been some place special.

A picnic in a real basket with a blanket, cloth napkins, etc. makes them very excited.

Do they do this every where? every tuesday? Just this tuesday? Just through the summer? I haven't heard of this. It would be great. Is there a link for details?

My library (and everyone in the Portland Metro area I believe) carries free passes to lots of different museums and cool places. We have something here called the Children's Museum, which has tons of great hands-on activities for kids of all ages. The library has passes for it! We've gone more than once where someone in front of us paid in the $20+ range, then watched as we had the card zapped and were ushered through without spending one dime. Call your library and ask what they have free or reduced price passes for, it might surprise you. Oh, and you could also see if the local fire station would let you come stop in for a visit. Here in Portland, they like you to come on Sundays. HTH, let us know what you end up doing. -Laura

Oh the firehouse sounds great!! Around here, all of the fire stations are volunteer, and they are very enthusiastic about showing off for people! Most will even let the kids climb on the trucks & try boots & helmets on.

Wow, that is a great idea! I will have to tuck that away for a rainy day!

Oh, and check in your community for other free stuff to do-one of our local parks do summer night concerts on Sunday nights. Our newspaper usually has a write up of what is going on in the community, and there is almost always several free things!

but, our Chuck E. Cheese is free to get in and play... They also give each child a token when you come through the door.... I know lots of people who take their own drinks and just go play in the tubes and mazes....

Oh I didn't even think of doing that. I was just thinking about eating there.

Well, I think Ihave decided to take them to a park we have never been to in a large town near us and then going to a library there also where we have never been before. I could let them each pick a book and a movie. I ahve heard the library there is big. We recently moved into the same county as that town by about 50 feet so I can get a card there now. I will also check and see if they have special things.

Thanks for all of the advice. I will probably wind up using all the advice at some point.

I was excited to see that there are paticipating movie places semi-close to me.
