We finally made the switch to cloth about a month and a half ago when we ran out of diapers and I conveniently didn't buy more, and I've been working through our stockpiles of wipes since. I have wipes on my list of to-dos this month (I've abandoned the stash game point thing, but am still planning on finishing my sewing goals if possible) So here are the questions
1-- can I make wipes out of anything, or are there recommended fabrics?

2-- What do I use to wet them. Water? Soap and Water? Other? Do I have to go wet them everytime I change her, or is there a way around this, some kind of storage option?. (Okay, I'm totally clueless lol.)

my favorites were knit terry one one side flannel on the other but you can use anything ;) I mean, disposable ones aren't particularly soft and absorbent, lol, so just about any nice material would be a huge improvement ;) I hear a lot of moms like velour....

storage, any container that closes is nice. I have done old wipe boxes, kept them dry in a basket and just wetted them when I needed them and kept them in ziplocs or those little on the go containers you get at baby showers ;)

I usually prefer to wet them as needed or use a combination of water and lavender/chamomile essential oils :)

Cloth wipes are great :D We use them exclusively with our cloth dipes. You can make them out of anything, but you'll prolly want something that'll grab the poop pretty well. My fave wipes are 2-ply flannel and knit terry. I also have wipes made from wovens, knit, velour, and sherpa. All are nice. As for storage, you can either get a container to keep them in wet (I use a super old sposie wipe container) or store them dry and wet them down prior to usage. I just use water with a couple drops of TTO and Lemon EO (to mask the TTO odor). You can use plain water or soap and water, too. Congrats on making the switch! You'll figure it out quickly :)

i'm a wipe junkie!

i've got dozens of various wahm wipes. some are all flannel, some a flannel/sherpa, flannel/terry, and so on.

my all time fave (and onlt because they tend to stay SO plush) are all velour/velour~yummy.

i've got fleece/terry (not at all my liking, since fleece REPELS water-but i didn't think of that at the time, lol), sherpa/sherpa (also very sturdy), and just about any other combo you can imagine.

as for the wetting of the wipes, i keep a basket of wipes close to each sink in the house (kitchen & both bathrooms) and wet as needed with hot water (so by the time i get to baby, it's warm), and i also keep a tiny squirt bottle of 4 parts water, and one part bb apricot oil in it for stinky poop changes by each sink so i have everything right there & don't have to search for it (squirt bottles in walmart/target's travel sz shampoo/deo isle).

I 've had terry wipes & flannel wipes, adn prefer the flannel. Terry can be a little harsh. I just ended up serging 6" squares of flannel (killington is hands-down the best, but 2 layers of another flannel would work). To wet then, you can use plain water, or you can use distilled water, with a little baby soap, olive oil, and a drop or two of tea tree or lavendar oil to keep the bacteria at bay. You can put the solution right in the wipes (I used a ercycled 'sposie wipes box), or in a squirt bottle, so you wet each wipe as needed. I used my peri bottle I got after having dd for the wipes solution for several months. I figure that stupid plastic bottle probably cost me $74.95, so I better get some good use out of it.

I use serged single layer organic flannel and Baby Butt Spritzer from Babeotanicals. :) My daughter insists now that diaper changes always mean spritz, wipes, and salve even just for a pee. She likes her routine I guess!

To avoid wasting water waiting for it to get hot, I wet the wipe and put it in the microwave for a few seconds.

The majority of my wipes are just a layer of flannel (from old receiving blankets). I've managed to get a bunch of others from extras from wahm's when I purchased their diapers. The yummiest are the sherpa wipes. They work great for messy diapers. As for storage, I use a recycled wipes container and we make a "batch" about once a week. My wipes solution is a few drops of TTO, few drops of lavender oil, a few squirts of baby wash (we use California Baby), some Burt's Bees Apricot Oil (turns some of my wipes a little orange :( ), and water so they all get wet.
