View Full Version : I just heard a horrible ebay rumor!

A couple of my friends had their used cloth diaper auctions pulled from ebay. When they asked why they were told that ebay was no longer going to allow "used" diapers to be sold there, only new ones. They said it was a "used undergarment" and they were starting to close down lots of auctions  if so this is horrible news to me!!! :(
Anyone else heard of this??

BFD - it's baby underwear for crying out loud. If someone wants to sell it, and someone wants to buy it...what's the problem?
Must be some kind of liability thing or something. Eventually you won't be able to sell any used items. :o

yep it's true. I had one of mine pulled for that reason. Sucks!

Wow, that is just kind of odd to me...It isn't like they are used disposible diapers, now that would be gross! As long as they are clean, who cares if they are used??

They allow used breast pumps on ebay, which are far harder to clean/steralize than cloth diapers. If they're going to take that stance on it, then they need to pull a lot of items, not just cloth diapers. Hopefully it will be just temporary! If ebay sees all these auctions going to kittybids.com or mompackauctions.com, etc. then maybe they'll change their tune!!
But I agree with you guys, that sucks!!

Just cause I'm nosey.... I did a search on "used underwear" and came up with only one match (a sticker) when tons of fetish type listings would come up.
The only reason I know that, is because some people I know didn't believe you could get used underwear off ebay. I also showed them auctions for virginity, souls, and positive feedback.

And yet there are still 1500 cloth diaper auctions currently on ebay. Just on the first page alone there were many used dipes listed. I wonder how ebay has decided which ones to pull & which ones they will allow. It all sounds rather odd to me.

IMO, it is a foolish business decision, they will lose tons of money! Don't they realize how much money they make within our cding subculture? Must be CYA with insurance or something!
edited to add: Back in the day when dc1 was a baby, there were hardly any dipes on ebay because of the fees. They were all at www.mothersnature.com Anyone else remember that?

I did the search last night, too. If something's going to be applied, it should be across the board and not pick and choose.

It takes a while for ebay to go through all the auctions. Maybe they are? Someone said there was 1500 cloth diaper auctions last night, when I searched this morning I came up with 516.
I also did the ebay live help thing and the guy told me he had not heard anything about that, but did direct me to the rules department so I sent an email, but it said it would take up to 24-48 hours to get a reply.
My guess would be because of the fact they are used and have held bodily fluid at one point. This could be a liability for them, thus the reason the are pulling the auctions.

When I searched this morning there were 1482 diaper auctions. You'll have to let us know what you hear.

I got 500 some yesterday afternoon, so maybe depends on search terms???

If that's the case, they should pull all kids clothes. I'm pretty sure that my oldest ds has wet through every pair of clothes he's owned while potty training. Actually, we still get wet shorts/pants even though he's going on 6. :o What else? Bedsheets...definitely used bedsheets should be banned. And what about sweat? Does sweat count as a bodily fluid? I'm being silly now, I know, but the whole idea is just so frustrating...

nursing pads, napkins, washcloths, towels, socks, bras, sheets...
What about slings? Babies poop/spit up on everything.

as far as used undergarments go, ppl used to sell their sweaty panties and boxers. they were sealing them in ziploc bags and sending them that way. they had to stop doing that, so maybe those ppl complained about diapers:confused: not sure, but i am repulsed by the stinky undies thing. bleck, there are some sickos out there.

a while ago i stumbled upon used undies too and in the acution the seller stated it was "washed in compliance with ebay regulations".
WTH??
I'd love to see the smaller sites get more action too.

Technically, you are supposed to list this clause in any used clothing/fabric item that you list. About a year ago, ebay was going through and shutting down all auctions that did not list this in their auctions. Talk about silly...
But you can blame all the freaks out there.. lol selling their used nasty undies for these wonderful rules.
It would be nice to see some of the smaller diaper auction sites get more traffic though!
Still no reply from ebay.. which isn't a suprise lol.. maybe tomorrow. Has anyone else sent an email?

Ugh @ ebay!
They will lose money. But I guess they probably don't care.
I guess I don't see the big deal--if someone wants to sell their sweaty undies and someone wants to actually pay money for it (YUCK!) who cares? I don't think ebay should have any liability in that, should they? Anyhoo...what a PITA. :(
