View Full Version : INO a STERN talking to mamas! I'm considering a $600 double stroller!...
okay-with that said-GIVE IT TO ME!
do you have the cash upfront?
didn't you just pay off /consolidate cc? putting it on a card would just comound the hole you're trying to climb out of.
can you get it used?
can you borrow one to see if you like it?
is the 600 dollar one worth so much extra money?
should you wait until after babe is born and see if you even need it?

#1 The Navy doesn't pay you enough to even look at, let alone think of buying, a $600 stroller.
#2 In 1 year, your child won't even want to ride in a stroller. Save your money ~ your infant will want to ride in a sling...after that, the baby may want a stroller (read above post, at this time, you'll only need a single).
#3 You could use that money towards moving/home buying
#4 You could buy alot of yoni art/purses with that money (just kidding!)

I got a Mountain Buggy double Terrain for about $300, it was one of their demos and they gave me a deal on it. I had to call and ask. It doesn't swivel, but that hasn't been a problem.
Still, I look back and while I use the dang thing every single day (my son is almost 4 and delayed, and the only thing that chills him out on walks is being in a 5-pt harness), I still think it was too much. I can't imagine spending double that!
What stroller is it? Maybe I can talk you down to something more reasonable. ;)
And oh, I agree with Sontanned's thinking...first year, you will have baby in a sling...second year, see if you still need a stroller. I didn't buy the Mountain Buggy until Jake was 2 1/2 years old! Katie was 4 1/2.
Finally - I made myself pay for the stroller by selling off other baby stuff - the Peg Perego high chair my mom bought us, our Kelty backpack that Jake wouldn't stay in, my Didymos, and more. I even found a Twin Tender at the Goodwill and ebayed it for another $80 profit. I actually ended up paying for the stroller and making a couple hundred extra just getting rid of baby stuff we no longer needed. I refused to allow myself to dip into our main bank acct for such a purchase.

OH and I can't say this emphatically enough:
STAY AWAY FROM THE PP STROLLER BOARD. IT IS ADDICTIVE!!!!! DELETE YOUR BOOKMARKS AND DON'T EVER GO BACK.
ROFL! I have no idea if you have been hanging out there, but that is where I learned just how much a stroller can cost!
(How about a nice used Emmaljunga double? You can get them for around $100-200 on ebay.)
you are ALL absolutely right!
except, no i would NEVER put it on a card~we cut our cards up when we started the dc a few mos ago (and people think my yoni art was brave-HA!). i'd pay cash for it, and it would be FELT, that's for sure.
i guess i'm still suffering from i miss my expensive 2 parents wohm lifestyle now that i don't have my house or my suv, huh?
i even bought a second sally spicer diaper bag & an urben fibers bag that i don't even need (ssshhh, don't let dh know i agree with him).
i'm falling back, and i feel it~just need a good kick in the pants to get me to DO SOMETHING about it.
i sling my babies for gawd's sake. i have 4 slings, lol
i know i don't need this. geez.
but it *is* so freaking cute ;)
otoh, i'd rather splurge and get all 3 kids an extra pair of shoes when we go school clothes shopping in a couple of wks.

I went from thinking "shopping is an art" to "shopping is not an art".
I now know the art of window shopping. I love to go to the stores and touch everything; even trying on clothes. Some days I do this but other days, when I feel that I'll *have* to buy something, we go to the library. As cheesy as it sounds, it takes an hour to do so AND we get to bring home an armload of things (books).
Another thing I do to avoid buying is to go to the beach or pool ~ but for that to happen it needs to STOP raining.
omg, the guilt!
laurie, please don't take offense to this, but are you jewish by any chance?
my great gramma was jewish & she could lay it on so freaking thick we all felt like going to confession after an afternoon with her (converted to catholicism and then eventually paganism, lol).
yikes mama!
i no longer want the blasted stroller. there. i feel so much better.

wow, I jsut looked at it, and it's so cool. But I have to echo--wait to see if you even want it. Well, I guess you probably know, as this isn't your 2nd baby. But I haven't even felt the NEED for a double yet, as Anders wants to be in the sling all the time anyway.
I really understand the feeling for nice things. We dont' have much money either...it always helps me to go ahead and splurge on something...but make it a $20 something instead...when I'm feeling down about it.
i was KIDDING, laurie-i know you're a uu sistah ;)
(you were one of the mamas who convinced me to start attending a uu fellowship~btw~we signed the book!)

My goodness woman! You could practically buy a cow for that much money! Or at least half of one. (note: this argument only works if you eat meat.....or want a very large lawn decoration)

I bought this stroller for $22.99 at goodwill. I got a older Baby Jogger from a friend for when she was littler. That is the most I have paid. Alex's was about $100 and I got it as a gift... by the time he was out of it he was 4 yrs old. And that is the LONGEST I have ever used a stroller. Think about that... $600 for a stroller for at the VERY most two years with a double and four years with a single. That is $25 a month for two years... would you rent it for that?
Look in the paper, I am sure there are plenty of people who DID buy that stroller for $600 and are now trying to get a couple cc payments out of it two years later. lol....

Here is the stroller we got... I swear it was less than 6 months old and needed a tire repair kit that cost next to nothing. Mine is two years ago yellow and blue.... but it is the same thing. :) It is the inStep Jogger Deluxe.

That's what I'd do if I had to do it over again. I'd buy a used double jogger, inSTEP, baby jogger, Emmaljunga, whatever, for under $200.
I had an Emma double but my dd's super-long legs were dragging on the ground, and she didn't fit into any of the other joggers comfortably. At the time I was walking 2-4 miles a day with it and it seemed justifiable...now I'm not, Katie's older, and it seems like overkill. And that is just a year later!
Anyway...that's what I'd do in your shoes, buy a used double jogger...or even better, wait and see if you really want a double stroller. Nothing like getting one only to realize a few months later that your older one wants to walk!

A day late and $600 short here but I say GET IT!!!! We want a Peg Perego for the next baby *bad*. My dh works a second job for extra cash though so he'd just pick up a few extra nights so we could have it. Look, he knew he had a spoiled wife going into this so he's ok with it. lol! Of course the single stroller is about $200 cheaper than the double too. lol!
There, was I helpful?? :D

Ok, I am missing what stroller it is. And since I am also a stroller addict, someone please tell me which it is!

I LOVE MINE!! It will do anything I could ask of it and then some. I've never owned a fancy stroller but ther is no way they could roll as nice as my jogger. It does sand gravel you name it!!! Seems how well rolls over terrain would be the most important concern when buying a stroller. Just my 2 cents!

I believe the stroller in question is the mountain buggy urban double.

Our Instep is crap. :(
It's a hand-me-down, and boy....used it for 2 weeks and the problems began. A bolt fell out that holds the sides together, the canopy fell off, AND it gets flat tires 2-3 times per month.....now the plastic sides (that snap and unsnap for collapsing) don't stay so the stroller is not too safe as we walk....
I liked the Bell jogger we had when he was a baby.
