I bought a playstation 1. The auction said this about shipping:

Shipping will be based on your address, I dont and WONT make money off of shipping, it is WRONG. Thanks for looking.

The seller has a positive feedback rating of 98.2% out of 217 -- which I think is fine.

Anyway, the shipping for the playstation and some accessories is $29.95 from AL to CA. I looked up an AL zipcode to my zip code (34005 to 94928). I put in a weight of 15 pounds which seems heavier than I anticipate it would be. The cost for first class shipping is $22.64.

I took the statement about not making money from shipping to mean the person doesn't charge handling.

Maybe the package weighs more than 15 pounds. How much do you think a ps1 and a few accessories would weigh?

Here is the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8119728741

Maybe the package does weigh more than 15 pounds?

Maybe the shipping is for priority?

Do you think it is cool to check w/ seller about the weight of package and or method of shipping OR would this reflect poorly on my as a buyer. ???

I wouldn't doubt it could cost that much with the steering wheel, pedals, and other stuff. I had some of the same items and decided not to list it because the cost of shipping was going to be unreal.

You can ask them if they will consider shipping UPS or FedEx.. you might be able to save a little money there. Never hurts to ask.. all they can do is say no.. kwim?

With the steering wheel & pedals, that's probably where all the weight is. Michael had one for the comp. & it was quite heavy.

You did get a good price on it. Michaels steering wheel & pedals cost almost $40 for the computer!!!

When you get the package & you see that shipping was LESS than he charged, than I'd state that in his feedback.

Thanks!

I don't mind paying fair shipping -- so I will go with it and not worry about UPS or FedEx. I just wanted to be sure the shipping seemed right.

I do think it was a good deal even with shipping considering all of the extras.

Thanks again!

A lot of the weight may also come from packaging materials. I know if I were shipping something like that, which could break in transit, I'd want to make sure it was packed in the box nice and tight with lots of cushioning packing. I recently sold a bunch of wooden train stuff, and the box weighed 17 lbs if I recall correctly, mostly because I used newspaper to pack it all in well.

I agree with the PPs about shipping.

I clicked on their feedback, though, and it isn't very good, IMO. 98.2% with a rating of only 217 isn't a very good ratio.

Anyway...hope it all goes well. :)
