Bear with me - about the only people I know that hs are on this board - so this may be a stupid question, but I'm curious none the less.

Are any of your kids affiliated with ps sports?

Devin has never been sporty, but has talked continuosly all day long about this football camp that he's doing over the summer. Apparently they are getting the kids ready for no contact football teams this fall. Devin keeps thinking that he will be able to be on the teams, but they will be through the ps district. Is he gonna be able to play football if he doesn't go to ps?

Just curious, because I know our hs group doesn't have anything like this. We're certainly not going to stick him back in ps so he can play football, but I would be thrilled if he could go for pe or just possibly join a team.

Am I NUTS?!? The football camp he is going to is through the school district btw. They just assumed he was going to ps and we didn't tell them he wasn't.

Please fill me in!!!

You need to check with your state board of ed. I'm in Arkansas and our state school board leaves it up to each school whether or not to allow homeschoolers to participate.

We are in a similar delimia. I've hs my boys for over 6 years and Keaton (14) has played b-ball for the boys club for 5 of those years. He was granted a b-ball schlorship to a private school last year and i allowed him to go. I was not impressed (to say the least)with the education he received so I am not sending him back. He is very upset about this because he is extremely passionate about the sport and he was their strongest player (taking them to #1 in the league). We've been told by more people than I can remember.. and several coaches that he has a college schlorship if he can play where he will be seen/noticed. The homeschool groups in our area which have formed b-ball teams will not offer this..

I can't send Keaton to ps for sports alone.. but I am going to try convincing 1 of our local school boards to allow him to play. I know the coaches will want him as soon as they see his stats.. but the school board has the final say and they have shown me nothing but disrespect with each encounter.

And it doesn't matter that the majority of our pp taxes go directly into the public school system. I have to support them by law.. but I get absolutely nothing from them in return.

Good luck

p.s. I do know of several families in northern Arkansas whose children have played for their public school for years and the school was happy to have them. So there is a chance.
