Conor is two and a half and right now he has a diaper rash that I can't seem to clear up. It is like little blister or pimple looking spots and they are very small. It does not hurt when he pees, but when his diaper gets wet, it does hurt him. He has been waking up at night and telling us he hurts and then we ahve to change his diaper and by then, we are all awake for a couple hours at least.

It finally occurred to me last night that I changed detergent on my dipes about 2 weeks ago. I read the Tide is too harsh to use on dipes and some of mine are definitely wearing out, so I started using all free and clear. So, is tide really too harsh? What do you use? I also read a on a new zealand site that you should soak your diapers in water with some lemon juice or white vinegar for at least an hour after washing and then rinse. Does anyone else do this?

I'd love some advice, because we NEED sleep!

I've read that all free and clear is NOT recommended for diapers - there are oils in it that stick to the dipes and build up. I would either go back to TIDE or use something not free and clear (and not arm and hammer either that also causes buildup). I use cheapo sun from walmart and it works well for us to date.

regarding vinegar - I woldn't do it on a regular basis, but it might help you strip whatever buildup you have accumulated. Wash in hot with some vinegar and be sure to rinse the vinegar out real well (although darned if I remember why - something about the acidity I'm sure)

I use either BioKleen when I have extra money or el cheapo Purex. Both get DD dipes super clean & have never caused irritation for her & she has really sensitive skin. Before switching to cloth, her little fanny would constantly be red, raw & bleeding. No rash in a long time!

Good luck! Oh & heard the same thing about the lemon juice/vinegar. I wouldn't recommend doing that on a regular basis. But I do do it when the dipes get a tad bit stinky!

I use either PUrex or Costco's liquid brand (can't think of the name of it right now) on everything.

We always used Tide - just alot less than the box stated. We rinsed in vinegar - about every other load.
