DH and I are having disagreements about the curriculum that we are going to use. I want unit studies, I think they are more fun and more complete.
He wants to use Calvert School because they provide transcripts. He has it in his head that the kids will be going to regular high school and that we will need transcripts from an accredited school.
So what do you do about transcripts?
Has anyone sent their kids back to public school? What did they say about your transcripts?

i dont have teenagers, but when dh and i were homeschooled and went to college - they never asked for transcripts - only test scores.
maybe this book (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0761527540/ref=pd_sim_books_4/103-4866243-0920614?v=glance&s=books) might help your husband?

I've made a transcript for eldest ds, not for local public highschool, but for application for a summer employment/scholarship opportunity. This was very, very competitive and he got it:heart: one of 4 in our region. So it worked;) . There are many, many examples of transcripts on the internet for homeschoolers. You just take the grades you've been keeping and make the transcript!!
There are very few colleges/universities who do not admit hs'ers right now . . . those who do not in, say, 5 years will be dinosaurs.
As for public highschool, I fail to see any problem whatsoever. Every child's GPA starts in their freshman year. What they've done before that is irrelevant. The public school must by law accept your child, they likely would not even be interested in seeing your transcript even if you had one, doesn't matter from where. I'm sure they keep them on file, but what could it possibly affect?
Now, if you're looking at some competitive private highschool as your target, fine, but instead of guessing, just phone there and talk to an admissions person.
I could be missing the whole point of your dh's objection here:)

All good information shared with you already. I'd just go ahead and do more research -- your husband's fears are pretty unwarranted in reality... so do what you can to alievate them!
Branwyn is a great resource since she was homeschooled herself!!

Thanks everyone.
DH wants the kids to go to public school so they can do sports and have access to AP classes. He doesn't seem to think that I can handle teaching at an AP level.
He also has it in his head that all schools are going to want to see transcripts.
He has come around on so many of my crazy ways (as he calls them) I am sure that with the right information I can sell him on this. I just need to get him away from that Calvert website!

1. Check your state laws. Here we can homeschool *and* participate in public school sports. And a homeschooled student can take just one class if they want.
2. I had planned for ds to take AP classes at local high school, however I've changed my mind, and now anything I would've had him do AP, he's just taking the college course. It will transfer later, and I'm reading about how little AP classes are starting to mean to admissions counselors. By the time our smaller ones are high school age, AP classes may be meaningless.
3. So what if they want to see a transcript? You'll have one for them. I put my ds into one class in local hs (Spanish)(I don't speak it) this year, and they did NOT want a transcript. As I say, I was planning for him to take AP Calculus next year, and had already discussed this with the counselor. She said, no problem, the instructor would want to see Mal's textbook, but there shouldn't be any problem.
Seems like your husband is going with some myths he picked up along the way . . .
