What do you and your familes eat for the holidays? Anything special on the 4th?When I was growing up my famiily really didn't do anything special, but now we go over to my inlaws. They're a grilling type of family. We usually just eat lots of vegetable and fruit those days. On Thanksgiving we buy a tofurkey...might try to make our own this year. Same with Christmas.

We're not big holiday celebraters, but we do always go to my parents house for Thanksgiving and she makes us a special vegetarian dressing. She also always makes green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, yams, etc.

We grill out at my parents sometimes during the summer too. My dad has two grills - one for their stuff (meat) and one for ours (veggie burgers, not dogs, etc.). The one for our veggie stuff has never been used to cook meat.

When we eat at my FILs, they either make the meal vegetarian, or they make the meat, but leave it out of the main dish and those that want it can add it in.

My MIL just always makes vegetarian meals if we are coming over.

Hadn't thought about it before really, but I guess we are pretty lucky that everyone is accommodating.

For the 4th of July I made BBQ Wham (mock ham) Sandwiches, southern baked beans minus the pork, and potato salad, and watermelon. Mmm!

I am new here... just found this board over the weekend. I am very excited about it!

I love all the holiday foods...my family's holidays growing up has always revolved around fun and delicious food. There was always meat(and my extended family is still omni), but the yummies that I remember and now make are the sides...stuffing, mash potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, pumpkin pie for thanksgiving for instance. Yesterday we made veggie kabobs on the grill with some vegan sausages grilled...tasted great with coleslaw, corn on the cob, baked beans...yummmmm!!! the non vegans had toasted marshmallows and the vegans had watermelon for the early dessert(since the only vegan marshmellows I have been able to find may have peanuts and we have allergies). Then later on our way to walk to watch fireworks we all had cones of vegan homemade icecream....YUMMMY!!!!
