How many companion animals do you have? (I don't mean fish;)). Horses can be included because they are companions.

I voted ~ we have two "pets". One dog and one cat.

Although, we have LOTS of barn animals. Horses, cattle, chickens, guineas, quail. I think that's it. LOL!

We have a dog who is 8.3 years old, and a cat who is about 2 years old (give or take).

Both were abandoned/strays. Both are spayed. Daisy is a shep/chow mix and Lily is a long-haired calico.

Which reminds me: DOES EVERYONE HAVE THEIR DOGS AND CATS SPAYED AND NEUTERED????

Can't afford it? Call your humane society - they sometimes have vouchers for discounts. I was able to get a stray cat neutered and given his first shots for ONLY $15.00!!! Amazing! This was with a voucher, and with a cheap spay/neuter clinic company.

Our cat was $177.00 to spay!!! EEK! That was a bit much IMO!

Back to your regularly scheduled program, folks..... :D

Yeah Julie, I was thinking Vin would count since he is as hairy as an ape but I've already tagged the kids as lil heathens so I don't think I can count them. ;)

No companion pets here just the oldest son's little frog.

 Amina, see, once again you prove why you are so wise!!!!! Spay and neuter.....kittens and puppies are cute, but for all those homes they end up in? That leaves less homes for the abandoned ones in shelters to go to. So people thinking they have homes for all their kittens and puppies and other pets? You may very well....but because of it, another kitten, puppy, rabbit, etc. in a humane shelter will end up euthanized because of the lack of homes. Be responsible and spay *and* neuter!!!!! Not only is it responsible, but you avoid medical issues like pyometra, urinary issues, etc. The cost of those is FAR greater than the cost of a spay or neuter.

ITA amina & denise!!~

one of our local Vets also has a program that you can apply for & get a pretty good % off of their regular costs... so, it def. is worth asking about... clinics, discounts, etc.....

Mine are spayed and neutered (from the shelter too). But! My male had a lot of problems with the neuter; some people say it was the anesthesia and others say (foster parents who experienced this with bigger dogs as well) that some males just don't react well to the body change. I wish there was an easier way to end the overpet population and that has been echoed by many rescuers here in my community who feel that the surgery is rough on the animals. Until then, the rescuers keep spaying and neutering hoping someday for something kinder for the animals. (NO flames because I know some will disagree)

1 cat- Krusty (after Krusty the Clown from the Simpsons. he's 13 this Sept. My bro named him lol)

1 bunny-Thumper. He is 1 in August. Very friendly. You can stick your fingers in front of his face and he won't bite. he loves to cuddle near your neck!

2 turtles-Freddie and Shaggy. Shaggy was given a 5% chance to live by his vet last October and he is now alive and doing great. He's my miracle turtle. I had 4 turtles but had to find new homes for 2 cuz they started biting the others.

1 fish-Beavis lol

2 snails-no names lol

1 new puppy-Brutus. he's Pomeranian/Cocker Spaniel mix.

Does my SO count? he's a companion. Or does he have to have fur? LOL

we have had many more companions at a time in the past but they lived out their life spans and we did not replace them for the time being.

Our past menagerie

a family of zebra finches Beep and Bip (their children were given away to new homes but we kept the 'husband and wife')

a budgie named Buddy Jones (he lived a very long life and had an amazing vocabulary.....sounding like an old tape recorder when he spoke!)

Netherland dwarf bonded bunnies. Hopper and Jiggly (neutered brother and sister)

Yes, now its just Shep and us. He is our dearest pal. We all adore him.
