I put my almost 3-yo (6/9/01) in her big girl bed in her own room after cosleeping since she was six months old. She's excited, she wanted to go in there, and she knows she can come into us if she wakes up, but I miss her already and I haven't even gone to bed!

Am I doing this too early? She really does seem ready, but I don't know if I am!

Advice, consolation?

Thanks...

Chantelle

My dd is moving to her own room in a month... just days before HER third bday... I think it depends on the kid. And I think that if you are ready and she is ready then perhaps it is time? She sure looks happy. :D

Happy Birthday little one!

Sounds as if you are really respecting her spirit and are letting her go even though *you* want her with you. She has her own bed, but knows she is always welcome back in your bed. But, I know it must be so hard.

I can't wait until our bed is ours again, but I know what you mean. I will enjoy crawling all over dh again, though;)

I am partly envious...but not fully. RJ is going to be 4 soon, and although we have had his bedroom set up for about a year, he seems to have no inclination to sleep in his own bed, or his own room. On one hand, I think it would be wonderful if he would...usually on the nights he is restless! LOL! On the other hand, I am glad that he still wants to share sleep. He does love playing in his room tho! I am sure the time will come too soon...be sure to keep us posted on how it goes.

If she wants to go to her own bed, if she's excited to do it and is ready to go, I think you'd be doing the wrong thing by keeping her in your bed against her wishes.

how did it go?

My dd has her own room at my mothers house. when we are there she will say she wants to sleep in her room. I'll get her all ready & by the time I'm pulling up the covers in my room she is knocking on the door "i'm lonely can i sleep with you".

at home (1 bedroom house) she will occassionally ask to have her "own bed" set up on the floor next to my spot but she doesn't usually last more than a few minutes there before she crawls up to me and wants nursey.

I think it's a good experience and letting them move slowly at their own pace is the way to go.

She slept great in her room - all night long. I lay down with her to sleep and she didn't wake up till this morning, when I got into her bed with her and woke her up. I'm so sad...

My baby's growing up!

Thanks for the words of widsom, mamas.

Xander just moved to his own bed a few months ago. The first couple of nights were hard but easy peasy after that. But he's my second so it gets easier. Chanel went from our bed to a toddler bed at the foot of our bed when she was 3 (and I still would lay there and stare at my baby sleeping...lol!) and ended up moving to her room on her own at around 3½ shortly after her extremely loud fussy brother was born. I wonder what motivated her to do that? LOL! ;) Poor kid couldn't get any sleep in our room after that. lol! But she is still a co-sleeper at heart and we regularly wake up with a big lump in between us. lol! So don't worry, I'm sure she'll stop by to visit a bunch...especially during thunder storms or scary dreams.

Awww! Look at her! She certainly did grow up since we last saw you guys.

FWIW (and we didn't cosleep) I think you're doing a wonderful thing by respecting her wishes and also keeping your door open to her. She probably feels completely comfortable in her new space, but knows she can come to you if she wants.

Enjoy all that extra space in your bed! :)

I just have to say Tiffany, that these are some of the most considerate, caring and kind words of encouragement I have ever read. :sob:

My dd isn't ready for her own bed at 3.5, so it does depend on the child. We do put her in her own bed after she falls asleep from time to time (he wants to be hit in the face all night long). I am always happy when she returns. :)
