I'm no expert, but here it is :) I had a lot of interuptions, but I think I have all the steps there.

A peasant top Sew Along. I used Munki Munki sushi woven, but have made a ton of these with knits as well. Kwik Sew has a pattern for older girls, I used a Burda one I found. Click the pictures for a detailed description of each picture. I used an old sewing machine, and you can use a serger too. YES you need to do the ironing. Just bite the bullet and get it out. Oh and I don't use pins. Ever. Got stuck too many times as a youngster.
Have fun, and please post questions here, if I can't answer then I'm sure others can.
Here are more peasant tops I have made mostly for Mary:

OMGosh you're kidding me! It's THAT easy??? I've been freaking out over NOTHING!! Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh.
LOL
Thank you very very much for doing this. That is so simple and now I KNOW I can make some for my daughter.
Quick Question- how do you measure for the elastic for the neck and armholes?

Yep, like most things it's simple once you see it done. I just go off the measurements from the envelope pattern. Sometimes you have to search for it, but it's there, either on the pattern itself or the instructions.

Oh, Meg! Leading the newbies astray. :p Ironing is not necessary! It is optional just like pinning ;)
Melissa is absolutely adorable!

Thanks! She's 3 months old today, I can hardly believe it!
Yep, it's optional like pinning -- but I think it makes the garment look much better. Pinning, blech. got stuck too many times by my mom's errant pins... :p

Sheesh, you mean I'm suppose to iron? 1 million peasant dresses later, no ironing.
I also sew the elastic in a circle, then sew the garment around it. One less step.

Thanks for putting this up, I know it will benefit lots of beginners. I find it interesting that your way is totally different than mine, LOL. I sew the side seams first, then sew the sleeve shut then attach the sleeve to the top/dress. That's the way the first pattern I tried recommended, and I haven't looked at directions in any of the others, lol. :o I also do my elastic like Allison.
Melissa looks darling in her new dress. :)

Yep, like I said I'm no expert LOL!
OKAY -- you don't have to IRON! :p It helps me, I guess I'm just very retentive.
