They are not hard the key thing in my opinion is the pinning.. Making sure you pin it well and pin the front and back where your legs seperate evenly.
do you still need picts

No doubt. I've never pinned either. Can't even imagine where one would pin, to be honest. :o
What I want to know is where are people getting all this beautiful yarn from?

dd is doing her horse now....the pinning visual has helped thanks.
feltcraft says the mane goes on after the body is stuffed. does it get secured with a short stitch or do we sew it on before its stuffed.

I get my yarn from everywhere I can ;) I "advertize" forit in swaps, I buy fishermans yarn from Joanns adn dye it, I get chunks of tangled dyeable from Dannielle and dye it ( ;) ), I get leftovers from Lissa who spins and knits, I hit the "motherlode" at a thrift store last month and found 8 4 ounce skeins of 100% wool natural colored yarn and that is what I dyed today, wanna see?
sense a trend here?
lol. and that bulky stuff, I bought in um, Calistoga California during a Goddess Festival 7 years ago in a yarn shop cause I was gonna learn to knit, ROFL... but, hey, at least I amusing it for horses now ;)

I'm sure you've already said this somewhere so forgive me but where do you get the patterns for the horses and dragons from?
Mamaselena

YOu can get a pattern for a horse from the feltcraft book. But Dannielle's dragon is her pattern ;)
You can actually just draw a simple outline of a horse and then lay that pattern over a piece of paper... line the paper un evenly with the belly then go up about an inch...
you will have apattern piece with half a bell and the legs on it, cut this out on a fold of felt and you have the inset piece-Dannielle is the mastermind behind this genius "smacking head OH! yeah" moment ;)
you can do that with most animals, really:)

So, what feltcraft book are the patterns in? I did my horse freehand, but a pattern would be so nice. He had to have a little "tummy tuck" cause I over-estimated on the inset piece.

You girls are WAY more talented than me because anytime I even attempt to draw a horse even this simple... well, he looks like he has barely survived a famine.

since there doesn't seem to be an actual horsie-a-long going on, could i talk anyone into describing exactly, in precise detail, they apply the mane and tail?
i'm just getting ready to start my first horse and i wanna do it right. yeah, right, i know that there's no one right way, but ya'll know what i mean. lol.

No problem.. Here it goes.. I make the tail like a pony tail..(U take say a 6 inch section of yarn and fold in half.. Now this is different for each size horse.. Now one end will have loops and the other end will be open.. I find the center and tie the same color yarn around th pony tail. Will post picts in a bit.. then knot it and sew it onto the horsie tush.... Same applies for the mane. but I stitch it down so that it covers a longer area and ( spread out so to speak.. If you can wait I will show you toinght. Just tack it down good all along the back of the horsie.. then I clip the loops open and I am done..
