I took a few pics this afternoon. We have a very short growing season here, so everything is still relatively small.

Those are BEAUTIFUL! I love them! I absolutly love your pathways and those flowers are breath taking! I have never had flowers before this year so I am not sure what that is like yet... because none of mine are blooming, but I LOVE yours!!

You have given me some great ideas! (And those chive flowers are great on potatoes... you just pull them apart and the little purple flowers have a hint of onion to them... we just did that two nights ago, and the kids loved that they were eating "flower potatoes"... lol)

One more time... I love your pathways... eventually I will have pathways like that... with the rock peices and the tiny ground cover growing inbetween... I love it!

PS I can't spell either... lol... just watch my posts. ;)

Here are a few pictures of my gardens for about 1.5 maybe 2 weeks ago.

The front garden: native prairie flowers, mis. medicinals & bee/butterfly/bird attractors. I'm adding a bird bath to this garden sooner or later. I'm also re-doing the edging with this neat garden stone "words" edging kit my mom gave me. Just need a really big bag of vynal patch kit & a few dry days.

http://rwhite.photosite.com/Miscpics/100_0044.html

The kitchen garden: Laurel's flowers, herbs, raspberry stick or tea, wild violet & some random bulbs that I planted 6 years ago. They were only suppost to last 2 years and still haven't died.

http://rwhite.photosite.com/Miscpics/100_0045.html

The vegi garden: Nothing in this picture but the remains of last year.

I'll add some new ones tomorrow if it doesn't rain again.

That is awsome! I love the bed in the front and it looks like that back bed is all ready now! How fun!!!

PS I ended up going to your quial egg pictures... what did you do with those? They are so cute! I want some like that to decopauge (sp?) so Cyan can use them in her play kitchen... but I don't know how safe the glue is... but I keep thinking that would be a great idea.

I'll take pics with my reg cam today and show you pics next week. I really enjoyed seeing all of your gardens. Mine are mostly flower gardens with a small herb/tomato garden. At my FIL house I am growing sweet potatoes, squash, peppers, cucumbers, egg plant and zuc.

Love the idea to use the flowers from the onions....we'll do that tonight!

I love the other pictures.

I can't wait till I have more in bloom. It is just going to be lovely. I might be brave and see if I can get some vegetable plants in. Colorado weather is funny, You can get a good frost/snow storm at the end of May.

Valerie where are your pics? I don't think I have see your garden.

Here is my garden this morning. It looks blue because I have a crappy camera... but it will give some idea. This one is the main produce bed... in front there are mesclin greens, mustard, cilantro and marigolds.... behind that are a row of carrots, and then peppers to the left. Behind that is broccoli, and in the very center is the red sunflowers. They will be SO perfect in the center of the garden... I can't wait! In this bed there is also cabbage (to the right) romaine lettuce, leaf lettuce, chervil, pinapple sage, onions, leeks, beets (for greens), italian parsley, two small califlower plants and a spot for my wamer summer crops that I have not planted yet.

This one is the herb bed... well sort of... I plant by companions, so everything goes with whatever it is happiest with... I don't really have an "herb bed" and a "veggie bed" they just all sort of blend with what they like to grow next too. Anyway, this one has borage, lovage (which is nearly covered by the borage leaves and I need to fix that), salad burnet, melon sage, green sage, daliahs, margerom, winter savory, swiss chard (bloting in the right top corner), cone flowers (echinacea), black cohosh, zinnia, bush peas, terragon, and stevia.

This is my only true herb bed... it only have perenial or self seeding herbs in it. In this bed there is rosemary (that is only a year old! Can you believe that!!!!!), oregano, thyme, lemon thyme, spicy orange thyme, chives, parsley, and johnny jump-ups. Then along the trellece in the back (to cover the garbage cans from the street) there is scarlet runner beans. I love them... they are so pretty!

BlueRoseMama

This is the bean and pea teepee that Alex and I made... there is a better picture of the whole thing in the picture post I did a while back. But this really shows it working. Behind it is my rock garden, which is in the shade, so will not really fill in until it is warmer... we are having a very late, very cold spring here in the Pacific Northwest. I can't wait to see this all grown in... those pictures will be fun. It is big enough for me and the kids to be in!

In front of the teepee towards the street and the rest of the garden is spinich, edamame, egg plant, cilantro, and sorel.

BlueRoseMama

This one is the red sunflower corner. In the center there is a teepee with a lemon cucumber growing on it. When that teepee is done it will look like a little christmas tree with yellow balls hanging from it! I am really excited about this too! In front of the teepee is a row of leeks. To the right of this picture is summer savory, globe basil, and lemon verbena (which is my favorite plant in the entire garden!!!!)

My shirt is in the way on this one... I was trying to block the sun from the camera so there was no glare... lol... but here is the whole thing. The things I did not mention that are here is the full row of strawberries that are fruiting now, the 4 ft tall florence fennel, tomatoes, three more kinds of basil (which are behind the garbage cans along the wall where it is REALLY warm), the purple sage, callendula, miniture daliahs (front small orange flowers), and the garlic chives... oh and I am sure there is more... but this is it!

You asked for it! ROFL, almost all our indoor sprouts died, so we're going to put seeds directly in the ground, maybe this weekend... Dh cut down everything on the left side, we just need to dig it out. The monster diasy on the right has to stay until he fixes the siding, because our neighbor said the guy down the street had the same stuff, and City Hall said it's asbestos (we were told it's slate), and they'll require testing and a permit if they see us fixing it... Anyhow, here's the front before...

And now...
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/beachcelt/house.jpg

Can't wait until it's full of color... Blues and pinks, and purple and white...

There's a trellis on each side of the porch. There were some sad scraggly morning glories on them, I ripped them off. We planted morning glories (blue) and moonflowers on each side, 7 each per side (14 seeds on each side). On the south side of the house, we have three morning glories, one moonflower, and some volunteers (purple), and they're *finally* at the trellis, just this morning!
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/beachcelt/morning.jpg

And on the north side, we have three moonflowers, one morning glory, and no volunteers! Oh, and the bottom half of this trellis is on the porch, it needs some fixing...
http://img1.photobucket.com/albums/1003/beachcelt/moon.jpg

Weird how they decided to grow. The trellises (trelli?) are beat up, and this whole thing is an experiment. I planted annuals, and figured that if nothing grew, we could take down the trellises and not be out a lot of money. Since they're growing the way they are-- morning glories on one side, moonflowers on the other, I'll plant them that way next year!

xo, Deanna

Valerie your garden is so lush and moist! It is very dry here, and I have to be careful not to let the plants dry out. I must say it is great for line drying though. A load of laundry dries in less than 2 hrs. :)

Oooooo... I love all the pictures! Thanks for sharing... DEandF, I would like to request that you post when your garden is in full bloom! I would LOVE to see that!

:D Yes, I live in the only area in north america to have a rain forest... it is about 50 miles from my house... it is very wet here, but we love it. I do wish the sun would come out though... we are having a hard time with slugs right now... they are VERY happy about it not being hot yet... lol... :sigh: Line drying is not an option here... nothing would really dry unless it is Augest or September. But I do line dry occasionally inside on a rack in the basement. :)

Here's some updated picutres from today. I'm constantly adding to the garden.

The Front view 1 and 2
in view one you can see that the black eyed susan is roaming the garden & yard. In view 2 you can see the other plants a little better. 10 of these are new this year, so they are still small & will take a year or more before they look like the most esatblished plants. This graden looks 100% better from either inside the dining room (it's orriented for viewing from inside) and in the super hot summer months.

http://rwhite.photosite.com/Miscpics/101_0150.html

Here's the vegie garden with 2 new yard of dirt! You can bairly see that the bush beans, cucumbers, sweet peas & lima beans are poking up. Just added a bunch more seeds today, more stuff will go in late next week too. Pardon that it's just been watered. The recent rain pulled up all the clay & I spent the day softening the soil again.

http://rwhite.photosite.com/Miscpics/101_0148.html

No new picutres of the kitchen garden. We havn't added anything there yet & actually lost all but 3 of the sunflowers in a very late season frost :(

I'm going to be a thread hogger and post 8 pictures for you. :D
First is the garden to the left of the driveway. This is a mix of flowers, veggies and herbs. All the parts of our garden are mixes LOL.
In this section the edibles you'll find: mint, khol rabi, yakon, brocolli (harvested already) cucumbers, green beans, just starting some blackberries... more I'm sure I'm forgetting...

edited because I don't seem to know my right from my left

mint, parsley, chives, rosemary, basil, garlic, lions tail, chamomile, etc...

the other side of the driveway we just took out the sugar snap peas that were on the fence. there are black beans just starting to sprout that will climb the fence.
there are strawberries, calla lillies, green onions, sweet peppers and a climbing rose that will go over the carport to hide how ugly it is. at the end (to the right) is the gate and on the other side there are wild flowers, carrots, chard, rhubarb, green onions....

CheekyBabies
05-30-2004, 09:08 PM
at the far end of the above pic are fava beans and a tomato. they don't get much sun though because of the ugly bottle brush and palm

CheekyBabies
05-30-2004, 09:13 PM
in the back yard (not much sun) there is more chard, black kale, a few carrots left, tomatoes just starting, impatience (sp?) and daisies.
will put in lettuce too
the playhouse needs a LOT of work before the kids can use it. That is this summers project maybe. you can also just see the sandbox we built last summer to the left of the playhouse. we are going to install a horsetail water pump (think old fashioned Little House on the Praire style) so the kids can have water play but will have to work for the water. we live in S. Calif so got to teach them water conservation young LOL

CheekyBabies

last one for now
the fairy garden- was an old broken down fountain (a theme evidently when we bought this house 2 years ago!) We cleared out the trash, filled it with soil and planted in it. Various sea shells and pretty rocks as well as little toys end up here.

Not shown anywhere we have a side yard with a little myers lemon tree and an orange tree.

The back fence in this pic has about 4 feet of easement we can take and use. it is on a slope so until we can afford to take the fence down and put in a retaining wall it will have to wait. I dream about doing that and then lining the whole back of the property with fruit trees :)

for children.....so inviting! Missy, what all do you have in your shade garden? I am making a "memory" garden for MIL, who passed in November. This garden is shaded most of the day. So far I have daisies, Lily of the Valley, prim rose and day lilies. I need a few more perennials, but I am out of ideas.

I am loving all the garden pics!

I loved looking at all the pics. Gave me lots of ideas for next year! I'm a messy gardener. Just threw the seeds down and hope they grow. LOL

It's a rain-stormy day and dreary, will have to take pics another day and post them for y'all to see. My mammoth sunflowers are 5+ feet tall, and the flowers around my telephone pole in the back yard are well, still growing and some are over 4' tall and STILL haven't bloomed yet! (maybe I gave them too much miracle grow?! LOL)

Front yard flowers are a bust...far too sunny. I have to keep reminding myself to water them at least every other day cuz it's full sun out front and they're all in containers.

:)

Thanks for sharing!

OOOOOoo... Stacy I want picture of yours too... :D

All my stuff is huge too... it is time for another picture post... lol... My sunflowers in the center of the main produce bed are at least 5' as well. My others are a little smaller, but they were planted four weeks later, and with the rain we have been having I am not in the least surprized that they have not caught up. We have the warmest April I can remember, and it has rained since. lol... the weather in WA is never to be "counted" on again I am afraid. I think it is chaged forever.

only, they are already out dated, LOL. Here is a pic of what I call my Gift Garden. Everything has been gifted to me and I have now started dividing plants and gifting other people. In front of the windows (and much taller now) are Black Eye Susan's, which are starting to bloom now. I just divided the massive Iris' this afternoon. Dark red and gold mums are in the front and hostas to the side, that are now in full bloom.

how much work I have done since and how fast everything is growing. This is a Memory Garden (in memory of MIL who died in Nov). We put stepping stones here that we were in the process of making her for her b'day, when she died. I got a start of her Lily of the Valley, which is to the left. Even further to the left, but not pictured, I planted Iris and prim rose. To the right is a start of day lily's and daisys that my neighbor gave me.
