Am I nuts to think this isn't that hard? (It's my liberal arts college education coming out... i think I can do anything, lol.)

I've looked at a couple of websites, gotten some instructions and ideas, and it just doesn't seem too complicated. The area I want to do is a very roomy side attic to make it more suitable for storage.

Ok, someone knock sense into me. :)

Two questions:
Do you have friends to help?

Do you care if it looks perfect?

I've done it, but I wouldn't do it alone (too heavy, too hard to hold and nail, and too boring) and I wouldn't do it in an area that really mattered to me because I found it too hard to get it to look perfect (I did walls and ceiling in our camp/cabin--to me, it's a camp; to folks in Michigan, it's a cabin; whatever)

It is rewarding, though, because you cover such big areas and it feels like something you shouldn't have been able to do yourself (or maybe I'm just a dork, but, hey, I'm talking to someone who posts her dog's birthday--happy belated birthday, Chono!)

So, to make my long answer a little shorter, if you have a friend who can help and you're okay with your storage area being less than perfect, go for it!

Yes, I've done it, yes it's easy, and yes, you'll definately need some help. I don't mind hanging sheetrock at all. It's the taping and bedding that drives me absofreakingnuts. wugh.

I've done it too. We ripped out all the rotting walls in our bathroom, and yes it was easy and quick, but we weren't painting, so we didn't have to deal with the aforementioned taping and bedding. We tiled the tub area and put tounge-and-groove knotty pine in the rest of the room, so for us it was really just a backing.

You may really enjoy it. I have drywalled an entire living room by myself (with mobile home drywall-not as thick) and I had fun. The taping was the hardest part though because if you dont tape it right, it will show through if you paint.

we've done several rooms in our home, and though the hanging isn't bad (well the huge art studio sucked because of the hundred million specialty cuts for the weird basement walls) I HATE taping and mudding!!!! so much so that it is the ONLY part of our current kitchen gutting/remodel that we have hired out! but for an attic I would do it myself- it doesn't have to be per fect :)

We've done A LOT of drywall - it's really not hard at all - but we made the mistake of taping mudding it ourselves the first time, and it looked really yucky. I covered it with wallpaper, and it wasn't too bad, but from then on we hired out.

After many, many, many more drywalled rooms, dh got someone to teach him how to mud and tape, and he does a decent job at it, but really - it's worth it to do the drywall yourself and have someone that knows what they are doing mud and tape.

Good luck, oh, and yes, it is heavy, and you will need help carrying it.

I know about this and can ask an expert to help with your specific questions.
One thing though is using screw gun with screws to hang it, not nails.
