I am starting to reasearch my ancestory and I have a quick question.

I was looking online at Cherokee information and it was saying if you are at least 1/16th Cherokee blood and you can find your ancestors on a certian roll, then you can try and become a tribal member

So, my question is, what would 1/16th be?

Common sense says if one parent was Cherokee you would have 1/2
A grandparent 1/4
A great grandparent 1/8
A great, great grandparent 1/16

???

Am I off here or is that correct?

I think you are correct also.

That's right assuming that the relative is 100% Cherokee :) If your Cherokee relative isn't 100% it's trickier.

You are correct, but some tribes have additional ways to count as well and some require parents to be registered, etc.
